What's new

Pakistan is now a $300-billion economy "Growth rate hits nine-year high of 5.28pc"

@Saif-ud-Din Qutuz u are not taking into factor the odds that have been against pakistan for the past 70 yrs, from its conception as an islamic republic the entire west and zionist world marked it as the top enemy, they never openly declared it but they focused the most on pakistan in the ummah because pakistan was one nation in the ummah that was uncontrolable, had we not had to make nukes our economic outlook would've been very different, had we not had to contend with some or other superpower coming after us after every decade our economical outlook would've been very different, first we had to contend with india right after our conception which was left by the british with the lions share of econimic and military resources, than we had to contend with the soviets coming after our blood, than we had to make nukes to protect our existance, the resulting sanctions and isolations crippled us, than right after that we had to contend with the Us coming after us via afghanistan, and man was that assault merciless, every powerful entity on earth was out for our blood in the past 15 yrs, assauot after assault to break us up, now scroll down my reply and decipher for ur self with a critical mind "how many nations would've survived the above assaults" and ur talking about economical uplift?? India has been the papered baby of world powers since its conception, it has had every ease abd suport from the reigning powers while we have been and are alone like always, only china comes to our aid and in some regards now turkey, every other even muslim nations including iran and saudis have conspired against us fron time to time, so mehrbani karo and just for the sake of crticism dont be hard on ur nation, we have held our own and survived when none other would've in our circumstances, hamara masla n a shukri hai, han do constructive criticism but dont start doubting the capability and conviction of our nation, as i said none other would've even survived in our circumstances, blame the ones who wrong this nation, dont start blaming and crusing this nation because that makes ur narrative in coherence with the likes of india etc, there is a big difference between ciriticizing the culprits who wrong this nation and criticizing the nation itself and u are doing the latter, so kindly refrain from such childish analysis in the future where u ignore all the mitigating cumstances, vitiating factors and internal/external catalysts. P.s i saw one of ur posts above where u were crticizing a dude for his english?? That shows how broad ur thought horizon is, english is not a standard of bieng educated, english is just a language, knwledge is what matters, not the langauge, get out of ur little universe and go visit the world and u will see that most of europe doesnt even speak the language....
Thanks for taking out time to write such a lengthy reply. I had thought a lot of facts and figures will be shared but I'm disappointed. Do read my full post as I did. Do justice with the time I'm investing to get a few things straighten up here.
1) I didn't curse our nation. I didn't look down upon a nation from which I belong. Either you misunderstood me or didn't go through all of my post, else, again its your English comprehension issue.
2) The guy I criticized for English was the one who kept on saying that I said "copy Indian economic policies which I didn't. I told him zillions of times that I haven't said it but he kept on saying that and ridiculed me. All I said to him was that his English was weak and couldn't understand what I was saying.

What I said is $300 billion economy is not our goal. You mentioned many enemies of Pakistan in your post. You directed towards almost all the countries that they're schemers and planning against us. Do you think we can fight them all by $300 billion economy? Do you think we should b satiated with $300 billion economy? If we've such a laid-back attitude that we achieved $300 billion economy, wow! yay! yahoo, yeppie! Then we're done. We got to keep on working. India is our enemy and we fought many wars with them. For the sake of comparison I said India is at 2.6 trillion dollars so its not enough and we got to beat them economically. The guy says, India's population is bigger than Pakistan so its economy is bigger. For God sake dude, Japan's population is less than Pakistan. You know what their economy is like? 6.1 trillion dollars.
What he was saying was nothing factual and unfortunately, all you said had less facts than fiction. World is coming after us. Us, Russia etc. Why would they Sir? A country that has been indulged in its internal issues, why would a third party need to come to batter them? US came to Afghanistan to hinder the economic boom of China not Pakistan. Get your facts right, Sir!
Russia didn't come to take over Pakistan or its nation, they wanted to access warm water. Get out of the bubble you're living in. Its all about Economy. Russia came to Afghanistan to achieve economic prosperity. US came to Afghanistan to knock-down ever growing economy of China to be number 1 economy. Get your facts right before you advise me. You know nothing about me. Probably I know much more than what you know about the Geo-politics. Still I won;t claim to be a short-caller here.
I'm a Pakistani, I love Pakistan and I want to see it as an economic giant not a $300 billion economy. Once we're a trillion dollar economy then we can brag. Right now, doing so is just not worth it. World will ridicule us on our attitude. 16 or 18 trillion dollar economy US doesn't brag about it all day long. They're working hard to make it even better. This is exactly what we got to do.

If you read my comment carefully, I have clearly mentioned some reasons, where Bangladesh clearly benefits e.g Low transportation costs due to less distance needed to travel from port to factory and back to port.
I never said that energy usage is not a criteria to access economy. My point was that it is not a very good and conclusive criteria.
Coming to the point where the whole discussion started was about the underground/black/undocumented economy of Pakistan, Yes, I agree there is a strong belief in economic circles that our GDP is not truly represented by the numbers given.
I remember a research paper in 2012 by M. Ali Kemal and Ahmed Waqar Qasim (both my teachers at PIDE) estimated underground economy of Pakistan to be between 30-56% of GDP.

I had read your post very carefully, and disagreed with it on points elaborated.
You should had listened to your teachers more carefully.

And u r saying to us that we have english comprehension issues lol and seriously man i wouldnt debate this further with a guy with extremely limited understanding of strategic and geo political affairs, ur comments and understanding on soviet n Us invasions into afghanistan convinced me that its a waste of my time to indulge in this further...

The Soviets invaded Afghanistan in order to have access to warm waters. Because Afghanistan has a coastline and is not landlocked.........:disagree:

India has huge car registration as cars are very cheap in India - a new Tata Nano can be had for only 2000 US dollars.

Do you understand accumulated wealth? Since 1947 Pakistan has had higher GDP/capita than BD till just now.
That means that even though GDP/capita is the same, Pakistanis are still a fair bit wealthier than BD'shis.
Let us no go into the fact that BD discourages car imports/use by punitive import taxes. It also does not push for local assembly as this will push oil consumption high and the import cost of oil will affect the balance of payments massively.

I know it hurts Pakistanis ego but BD GDP/capita has just about surpassed Pakistan's and now a gap will start to grow as GDP/capita growth in BD is 6% a year as opposed to 3% in Pakistan.

Please provide a reliable source for your claims otherwise it's meaningless. Whatever bangladesh achieves or not means nothing to Pakistan or Pakistanis. As far as Pakistan is concerned, bangladesh is an alien nation 1000s of kms away from us that we have nothing in common with us whatsoever. Saying bangladesh's economy hurts Pakistan's pride is like saying the success of the Eskimo community hurt's Pakistan's pride. Both are ridiculous and far-fetched.

Awesome Sir! Wisdomania :)

We need to compare all the indicators in a single table/infograph to find where we are ahead and we do lag to get that answer of the total scenario. Like below where BD is highlighted in "RED" where it is ahead of Pakistan in Year-2015.

check sheet provide by you don't answer any question, check points pertain to many many other fields not needed under current discussion.
Bangladesh has clear advantage w.r.t. in two fields;
-- rice production: Bangladesh produces about 35 million tons annually of different types of rice as against Pakistan which annually produces about 6 million tons of rice, due to the fact that 3 (?) crops of rice are harvested in a year. But fact remains that Pakistan is net exporter of rice and Bangladesh is net importer of rice (?.... I am not 100% sure, please clarify).
In case of Wheat, Pakistan produces annually about 25 Million tons as against Bangladesh produces about 1.3 million tons per annul.
Over all Pakistan is a lot bigger than Bangladesh in area; so in agri output can't match Pakistan.

Other segement in which Bangladesh lead is Fisheries, with more than 4 times more the production and catch.

I would like to point out other sectors where Bangladesh is in lead with some data, that would be very help in current discussion.

India had a 15x larger economy than us - now that gap has lessened to around 5x and will hopefully continue to lessen in time.
The relative GDP ratio between India and Pakistan is 9:1 today and will be 14:1 in 2030.

You need more inclusive plans and skilled & educated population, and industries facilitated by the govt to grow up to 1 trillion in 5 years.
$1 trillion GDP? In 5 years? It's not going to happen.

So the Russians actually wanted to invade Iran then????????............lol.......is that what the Iran Iraq War was actually about..........Saddam Hussein was in on it aswell..........lol......lol..:rofl::rofl::rofl:
You're the people who say, hey its raining too much in Pakistan, must be a conspiracy of US. Hey its kind of windy, yeah yeah! US is behind that. lol

You're mixing things up here between nominal and PPP GDP figures, Japan's nominal GDP is around $4T and PPP around $5.5T.

Please visit the following link giving the sales of vehicles model-wise in India:
https://mymotorwheels.wordpress.com...-car-sales-in-india-model-wise-sales-figures/
Tata nano 391 units sold in Jan 2017, and check the other vehicles sold also................ your argument is no more than a figment of imagination.

I do understand accumulated wealth, but please do point that where I used accumulated wealth in my comparison? I am using yearly consumption of Energy, productions etc. not figure for last 10 or 20 years consumption etc.
And please do post current prices of vehicle of 800 cc and 1000cc and 1300cc capacity vehicle prices in Bangladeshi Market, then we will match the relative prices in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. There will be a surprises for you.
Your argument about having no cars is rather lame; as same case can be observed in public transport and commercial vehicles.

Question of ego don't arise in this economic discussion, please keep such thoughts to yourself.

$1 trillion GDP? In 5 years? It's not going to happen.

Check the GDP comparison, now as Pakistan economy is 313 billion USD, nominal and India GDP is 2.45 trillion USD, nominal, the difference is of 7.7 times and not 9 times in percentile.

Also that difference you quoted of 2030 will actually shrunk even if India continued with its current or future GDP growth predictions. Pakistan GDP growth is on the rise and has risen to 5.27% within three years from 3.7%, and many infra and specially power projects in coming years will add to it substantially.

Current power shortage is one of the major factor in lower growth and once it is overcome hopefully in 1-2 years and many CPEC projects, they will add to at least 2% in the overall GDP. In coming years might go even further.

In nominal terms, India's will be $6.84 trillion, Pakistan's economy will be $500 billion in 2030; 14:1.

These figures are from the USDA ERS that aggregates economic forecasts from the WB and IMF.

You are quoting the new growth figures for India and old future growth figures of Pakistan...that equation has changed substantially with 6.2 growth figure for Pakistan by IMF next year 2018...as I have written.

So that old equation doesn't hold true now...
