Well MI-28 and PANTSIR S2 and BUK M3 and one other Air Defence system were offered to us by Russia during IDEX 2014 and they briefed our leadership also on this since than we are negotiating it. In fact one friend whose uncle briefly worked for Pakistan Army's strategic division claims that Pantsir S 2 is already in Pakistan

Our army services are [showing] keen interest in different Russian products. We are looking for the air platform, for any sorts of helicopters; for the army we are looking for tanks, we are looking for anti-tank weapon system and more importantly we are looking for the air defense system.

What happened to buying all the Chinese stuff?

If you buy the T-90s, S-350 etc, you will be a generation behind India. Worse, if you end up with T-72Bs and S-300s.

INDIA operates next gen tanks to T-90?Like T-14 Merkevera 4 ?Pak already operates S-300 derivatives and more powerful T-80/82 UDs.
For tanks we are not ordering off the shelf or in flyaway condition,we are procuring tech subsystems for our new gen al haider tanks.
Air defence is no problem as systems like HQ-9,HQ-16,FM-90 like AD systems have already nullified S-400 deals.
We are looking for better than we already have,scrap is not worth our small procurement budget.

Pakistan's increased interest in Russia could be fueled by the US' denial of F16s to Pakistan.

Russia could be throwing a bone to Pakistan to generate increased interest from India, which then could be leveraged to damage US-India ties.

Pakistan could be feigning interest in Russian products to irritate the US into providing whatever Pakistan needs (to an extent).

Dear Russia made most of components of these tanks Ukraine too due to both countries separation Ukraine had blueprints of systems like T 80 IL 78 etc

But at same time Russia has engineers scientist who had these blueprints too

So they both make similar system

Due to ongoing situation in Ukraine and Russia further advanced the tank upgrading tech Pakistan decided to upgrade T 80 Us from Russia it will bring both countries to further cooperation in future

The UD only shares it's chassis with the Russian T-80. . It's turret,gun,systems & subsystems are from the T-84 program. ..


And the UD fleet was upgraded with French systems recently so there is no need for Russian upgradation. .

The Ukrainian engines are perfect and are also powering AKS etc and we have facilities for overhauling etc. . So i doubt Pak will even think of getting russian engine's..

Infact they are more interested in Korean 1500hp power plants for the AKII.
