This is kind of low key event, not covered from Pakistani side except few news articles.

Afghanistani gov should strongly support this action.

PESHAWAR: Afghanistan’s National Security Council on Sunday discussed the digging of trenches and installation of barbed wire by Pakistani security forces near the Paktika province along the Durand Line.

A press release made available to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) said that Afghan President Hamid Karzai chaired a meeting of the National Security Council at the Presidential Palace. The National Security Council directed the borders and tribal affairs and interior ministries to gather information about the exact location of the barbed wire and its distance from the zero line and present a report in the next meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, the ministers said terrorists recently killed and tortured innocent people on the pretext of cooperation with the Afghan government. They said several innocent people fell prey to the IEDs in Ghor, Helmand and Kunar provinces over the past one week.

The National Security Council directed security forces to take the terrorists to task with the support of the people. It is pertinent to mention that the Afghan government claimed on Thursday that Pakistan had started constructing checkposts and trenches near Kandahar along the Durand Line..

I don't think fencing will work. USA tried some part with Mexico and it never worked out.

Actually the comparison should be within the region.

LOC fencing is working just A-OK.

And so will the fence on Pakistan- Afghanistan border.
LOC fencing works because it is electrified, three layered, mined, and continously monitored - by foot soldiers, by thermal and other sensors, UAVs, etc.

Can Pakistan afford to have such a setup in place in the entire border with Afgh?

I believe so.

Why would you think so low of us (your cousins from across the border)

p.s. Indian posters should side with Pakistan on this issue. No?

I do side with Pak against talibs. But my question was only whether Pakistan has the money for such a setup - it's not just a fence, it's also continous monitoring, which is damned expensive.

Thanks so much of your concern about Pakistani funds.

How about you and I start a petition to NaMo for sending some dough from BRICS bank.

Paktika borders Waziristan...
Yes, but Paktia is not the only province bordering Pak, is it? The Afg-Pak border is pretty long.

Thanks for the very insightful and sagacious response.
