Pakistan has crossed a major milestone in its indigenous shipbuilding project. In this regard, the commencement ceremony of the construction of the locally designed gunboat was held at the Karachi Shipyard. Commander Pakistan Fleet Vice Admiral Awais Ahmed Bilgrami was the chief guest of the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that it is a matter of pride for Pakistan Navy to start the construction of the first indigenously designed gunboat. He said that the Pakistan Navy is aware of the emerging geo-strategic situation in the region and is committed to enhancing its naval capabilities to counter any nefarious ambitions – on the historic milestone of indigenously designing a gunboat.

Any specification, tonnage, weapons, engine etc?

No official specs, but based on some similar designs by the partner (Swiftships), it could be:

38.8 m length
200-250 tons displacement
25 mm Aselsan STOP RWS

I wonder if we can convert these gunboats into mobile SAM-like configurations to provide air cover for our ships. It'll be cheaper and can be in more significant numbers spread out to provide total coverage along the coast and in the Indian Ocean itself.

What's that behind the Gun on the front side?

At the end these are small gunboats. Does the navy really need 20 of them?

we used to hear this kind of claims when I was a child (in previous century), after that it seemed like we decided to go back to starting point to start the race again. Pakistan is going nowhere, rest assured as long as we have colonial Army.

We can use RAM, but i think bigger AD missiles would be too big for this, by design (it looks) this ship has its limitation, I think Azmat FAC was much better design but than that ship for like FAC rather than Gun boats.
