Karachi Shipyard to build Bollard Pull Tug for Pakistan Navy

BUt since theyre bigger they require less technology right?

u r ri8 in the fact that they are huge but then again u have to make an engine whose shaft can tolerate the sea forces and beleive me that is massive...i sailed on a ship and we were crossing the bay of biscay and encountered rough weather..the steel in the forward portion was crushed like u crush a paper...so u can imagine..and they have to make sure vibrations don't compromise the safety..and when it comes to naval ships the factor of safety increases even more. did u know tugs have more power ratio than a ship even double its size.
PS the ship i was on was a super tanker bigger than most of the aircraft carriers.

how hard are ship engines to build?

it is currently under development.

Is it the same one which was developed for LCA but was unsuccessful in selection by airforce?

If it is going to be used in marine vessels? Could you please elaborate to which type/kind of vessels it is going to power in future?

Yes.

Using the core of the Kaveri engine, the scientists of GTRE have added Low Pressure Compressor & Turbine as a gas generator and designed a Free Power Turbine to generate shaft Power for the maritime application.

If it is going to be used in marine vessels? Could you please elaborate to which type/kind of vessels it is going to power in future?

No decision on that .The engine produces 12MW. So any vessel which require a 12MW power plant can equip this engine.

The engine has been tested to its potential of 12 MW at ISA SL 35°C condition which is the requirement of Indian Navy for propelling the SNF (Rajput) class of ships.

I think KS&EWs should expand its infrastructure also it should concentrate on making different kinds and types of equipments for Military and Commercial purposes like small, medium, larger and mega type equipment...
