It's not surprising that Pakistan is choosing the HQ-9 to arm its air force given that its early warning aircraft and the majority of its fighters are Chinese, according to the journal.

.
While everyone is happily jumping up and down on the recent un-precedented arms purchase spree, please do not forget to give unbiased due credit to the government for improving the economy to enable all this shopping and supporting our armed forces in their modernization/strengthening.

Let them work peacefully and reap the benefits of better policies and improved economy.

There is a misunderstanding

Its an open secret now that PAF is currently in possession of HQ-9 and FD2000 batteries for quite some time, in fact this news was leaked on this very forum. The negotiations were in advanced stages to procure batteries for HQ-18, i think the newspaper is probably referring to that.

I think those systems were probably for a more limited, protection of 'extremely vital assets' role.....this time it might be an open procurement.

In any case, what is happening, it is 2015 and all of a sudden Pakistan is buying this and that.
We know Pakistan got the FM90 SAMs, and the LY-80. Then The MBT3000 Haider for Army is under development, 8 submarines from China.....and you got the Z-10s as well. Oh did i miss the F-22Ps?

Something is up......i want to like it, but i can't......:undecided:

If the enemy has potent anti radiation missile, wont it be able to blind the system by destroying its tracking radar?

These missiles are capable of being launched via AESA awacs and if we buy further AESA ground radars. ARMs can be fooled. @gambit can give us a two cents on how to set it up.

.
Dear SPADA (40+km) is not PA's SAM it is PAF's SAM and it is not for moving army units, while crotale is not in use now but FM-90 Chinese crotale has range of 15km which can work with moving army units.
apart from man portable SAMs like mistral and anazas PA operates no SAMS
all the SAM systems are operated by air force
and crotale system was upgraded indogenously a few years ago and its range was extended to 30 km it is still in service

Key element is integrated air defence. If we can integrate these systems with other assets then it will be quite a challenge to neutralize these missiles. Still any air defence system can be suppressed.

Thats the right way to complement our air fighters, good long range SAMs, great finally we r comin out of point defence mentality... will be a game changer for the region

on the other hand , with all this purchasing frenzy, r we heading for a clash of some sort?? gut feel !!!

. . .
I wonder what financial implications come attached with the Saudi demand of support in Yemen conflict.

This procurement spree is either only just release of information at this junction of planned procurements (we know that PakMil does not usually advertise it's high level procurements and these could have been planned 5-10 years ago) or that we have been promised funds for these acquisitions from elsewhere.
