Pakistan considers mass privatisation drive as it seeks IMF bailout

If Imran is as chutya as his PDF supporter then he would rather pay 2 bn and keep "Our Assets"
bhai jaan PIA loos is 20bn ruppees this year if we just give golden hand shake all of employes 14000 of them 10mn each problem will be solve once forever

.
In modern times, govts normally do not operate any companies that can be commercialised so in that sense PIA and even PSM should be privatised. But Pakistan has a particular situation. I would rather say that GoP should make these totally autonomous and keep 51% shares to own them but all decisions are made by the CEO and board of directors and if the company goes in loss after making it profitable, then it has follow all the rules applied on any private company i.e. no govt funded bail out packages..
I would rather that 51% go into investing in schools, hospitals, housing for poor. Government job should be to invest in sectors where private capital will not touch or it's investment would create social inequity - schools, education, hospitals and justice.

Is it not amazing. If we paid PIA staff money to go home and do nothing the taxpayer would save 20 billion rupees.

bhai jan golden handshake means bye bye forever . not sitting in home . they will be terminated .

None of the Pakistani government entities can be privatised in current economic situation...

No body will pay for them...

Want an example... just search for privatisation of Air India...

If we let the useless ground staff go, fire all those aunties. I believe we have a winner here.

No need to pay golden handshake to anyone before conducting a scrutiny...all appointments made disregarding the merits and criteria should be terminated without any benefits rather those employees should be made to pay a;; the money (salary + benefits) back to the company. Furthermore whoever was responsible for recruitment should be punished with heavy fines and jail time.

In the real world you have to be aware of politics which can restrain you from doing the right thing straight away. If this was done too fast and too harshly [which it deserves to like you say] all theses employees will be on the streets rioting. This will bring in crocodile tears and support from PPP, PML etc which could attract wider mischief that ripples across Pakistan endangering PTI government in the centre. A good example of this is how the other great Khan we had - President Ayub Khan was brought down despite having presided over a government that did more development in Pakistan in it's entire history then and to date. Look around you in Pakistan even 5 decades later the print of President Ayub Khan era is still there. Maybe the PC your using is using electricity from Tarbela Dam, maybe the nan your eating was grown on field waterd by Mangla Dam, maybe the city you live in - Islamabad was built then etc

I know. I was making the point by being dramatic. In UK "golden handshakes" are used often to rid of those who areold in the tooth and a liability.

I did not know Air India also is a loss making concern.
air india has debt of some 500bn Indian rupees and yearly losing 35bn indian rupees last year . situation is almost same as PIA . but that is not our issue . we as a poor nation should not pay this heavy price for 14000 jobs
The PIA incurred a loss of
Rs36.13bn in 2008
Rs5bn in 2009
Rs20.7bn in 2010
Rs26.77bn in 2011
Rs30.5bn in 2012
Rs44.3bn in 2013
Rs31.7bn in 2014
Rs32.5bn in 2015
Rs45.38bn in 2016
and Rs44.11bn in 2017.

317bn rupees mean almost 3bn$ in last 10 years . they never show single profit years since ages . and total jobs are 14000 sir if it was a private company owner may have shut it down in 2009 .

Rest I will reply you later in detail but the MBP I'm using is most probably was charged by electricity from a wind power and hydroelectric station north of Stockholm..or power produced by biomass and most of it in fact came from the 120,000 sek solar panels on the slanting rooftop of my home here. Sun is shining bright here in Sweden this summer.

That is far better then Pakistan. Although AI might be losing about same money but don't forget India is nearly seven times bigger then us. If PIA losses reduced 7 times only then would the situation be comparable. And here is another thought. I actually support public policies that transfer money to the poor even if there is element of corruption/loss. For instance BISP. But often people here will flail their arms about this. Whatever the minutiae of BISP is but at least some of the money goes to the most vulnerable and poorest in society.

But in case of PIA etc what you have is a glorified BISP only this is for the already well off or middle class. and offers them a steady cow to milch under the guise of being employed. Of course nobody flails their arms about this !

You know what I mean't !

$3 billion is more then the money we have begged out of China as bailout. Do you know when was the last time PIA balanced or made a profit?

.
At least now we are discussing in terms of solutions and acknowledging the economic challenges which is a huge positive.

During PML-N term Pakistan was in a slumber and incurring loss upon loss. To think that some people still wanted to vote for corrupt and inept political parties.

There is No need For this if we can be honest enough
