Pakistan is getting 1.5 billion CSF aid ..1.5 billion Kerry Luger Bill aid..besides the flood aid..Pakistan can can impose tax and get the same amount of money they were getting before ..but it will forfeit good will gesture points it earns by allowing free transportation to US ..and you might stop getting free goodies you get as a MNNA(ie helis, frigates etc).

The amount Pakistan is spending on WOT has no comparison with CSF.

Pakistan is not getting helis for free and those are extensively used in WOT.

Frigate deal is some thing similar like Admiral Ghrishkov

Without challenging your stats. I ask; do you also know the figures of tax exemptions Pakistan granted to NATO over the period of last 10 years?
I'm certain.....you don't know and that's we wish to know the world wish to know the approximation of the cost of WOT Pakistan is paying.
I want to read it in WSJ, TIMES Magazine, The Hindu.
I wish that every child of Pakistan know exact figure with which we aided the NATO when it was operating in our neighborhood.

We probably won't tax but we should have separate head for the expenses we make on security escorts for NATO supplies and accelerated depreciation of roads.

We like to know how much loan present govt. has taken from IMF and World bank and at what markups so that we can correctly calculated the direct costs.

We are being advised by Holbrook, Hilary Clinton, IMF and World bank to charge Pakistanis for tax to for building broken roads.

^^^If this present article is to believed then by Pakistan will be earning 600 million/yr extra ..so if we take that as an uniform rate (though it won't be, as transported goods would have increased in recent past ..due to swell in no. of troops in Afghanistan)...then it will amount to 600 million * 9yrs = $5.4 Billion total ..but US aid to Pakistan exceeds $19 Billion

It definitely cant be in shape of cash as it is clear US policy not to let Zardari and his machinery near the cash!

How did you calculated 600million dollars?
How is it possible that you know the figures while President of Pakistan does not even know it?

Other point is Afghanistan is flooded with Indian goods and that was covert transit.

What you are terming as aid with incorrect figures is out standing bills of re-reimbursement of expenses incurred in service towards US requests out of Pakistan's defense budget.

We should not demand tax rather we should demand audit.

Those must be trialed who are responsible for smuggling Indian goods into Pakistan via Afghanistan.
Illegal trafficking is international crime, specially when the sacred ideology behind the transit aid was to make west safer place to live.

Such illicit trade is insult to the dead Pakistani, US and NATO soldiers.
Any misuse of transit aid must be dealt with full fervor and responsible shall be made lesson for living memories.

We also want govt. of Pakistan to show the real face of TTP which is party to this smuggling network operating in the guise of free transit aid.
Whereas aid primarily was suppose to be the gift of Pakistani people to U.S. nation and European nations.

It will be foolish to implement such ..if Pakistan thinks it can arm twist US in matters of money ..they have another thing coming ..US just might deduct this money from billions of dollars of aid its already giving and give it under this new Tax head...so instead of US directly funding projects in Pakistan..it might give the same money to efficient Pakistani govt, under this new tax head.

this is not arm twisting - i think people have got accustomed to pakistani default position being total serfs.

this is charging a fee for a service, and this is a legitimate fee the us has to pay, we are not their mothers.

pakistan/us simply do not have the type of friendship the politicians tell us, clearly the us do not want trade based relations, once the us leaves afghanistan we will probably be hit with sanctions anyway so might as well make hay while the sun shines

As I have explained before ..there are certain privileges Pakistan gets as a MNNA ..and that includes development funds from US budget..if you formally start charging your "so called" allies for something you have never charged any one before(tax on goods to Afghanistan)..then you might not be privy to those privileges any more.

However if you think you can slip one past the American ..then by all means go ahead!!

Anyhow, this is a different discussion, while in this thread we like to discuss the prospects of imposition of transit tax and ways to generate funds to re-pay the loans which we took from IMF and World Bank to build roads for said transit facility.

We like to make sure that our aid is not being misused.
