Pakistan-China Joint Air Force Exercise "Shaheen-IX 2020"

Pakistan Got Friends: Pak Military Officer Hails China, Pakistan Joint Air Force Drills As India Watches In Awe – WATCH

A senior Pakistani military officer has reportedly said that the month-long joint air force drill between Pakistan and China near the India border is a message to New Delhi that “we have friends too”.
While Pakistan fears it might be attacked by India, it also believes the chances of an India-China war are almost nil despite the months-long border standoff in Eastern Ladakh. “With this exercise, we send a clear message to India. We have friends too,” a senior Pakistani military officer told Nikkei Asia, requesting anonymity.

Like the China-Pakistan bonhomie has raised alarms for New Delhi, the growing military cooperation between India and the US has created some discomfort for Islamabad, which has long maintained cordial relations with Washington.
According to the Pakistani military officer, the Islamic country feels threatened following the signing of the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA) on geospatial cooperation between the US and India, which allows New Delhi to access American satellite intelligence for better weapon accuracy.
No More US F-16 for Pakistan?
While Pakistan finds itself in a difficult spot maintaining cordial ties with the US considering the tensions between Beijing and Washington, the Pakistan Air Force is not using American F-16 fighter jets during the joint exercise with China.
The move has been highlighted by the Chinese media. The air force drill — Shaheen (Eagle) – IX or ‘Xiongying’ in Chinese — is taking place at Bholari in Sindh, northeast of Pakistan’s Karachi city, close to India’s Gujarat border.
A video released by the Pakistan Air Force shows a variety of military aircraft. The Chinese news website Sohu released satellite images showing the Chinese Air Force Chengdu J-10, Shenyang J-11B, and Y-20A at the Bolari Air Force Base in Pakistan.

According to reports, Pakistan dispatched F-7 fighter jets, French Dassault Mirage 5 attack aircraft and new multi-purpose JF-17 Thunder fighter jets. Pakistan has said no American equipment, such as the F-16, has been deployed. The decision has made the Chinese happy as the Chinese media report said that Pakistan Air Force, which had American F-16 and French Phantom fighters as its mainstay in the past, is now more fond of Chinese weapons.
“It is said that the Pakistan Air Force now desperately wants Chinese J-10C fighters,” according to a Chinese media report. The Pakistan Air Force uses a mix of US, French and Chinese hardware, but its economic and political proximity to China and rough relations with India have pushed it into Beijing’s orbit.
The two sides have agreed on increasing their engagement in combat training and joint drills. A week before the drills began on December 9, China and Pakistan also signed a defense pact, seen as a counter to the India-US BECA agreement.
While the details of the Pakistan-China agreement have not been made public yet, it is believed that the deal contains commitments to intelligence-sharing that would help Pakistan track the movements of Indian forces across their tense border.
The India-Pakistan relations hit a new low in 2019 when the Modi government scrapped Article 370, stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. On the other hand, the Pakistan-China ties are not limited to the economic reason linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project alone. The two side have also strengthened their military cooperation, perhaps due to the ongoing border stand-off between Indian and Chinese troops.
Amid China’s trade war with the US, Washington has shifted its attention to India for enhancing its Indo-Pacific strategy to counter China. Now Pakistan, which had partnered with the US in Afghanistan to outsmart the Soviet Union during the Cold War, still wants to maintain cordial ties with Washington.
The Pakistani officer cited above has said that the US and Pakistan have been not only transactional allies but also dependable on each other. Recalling receiving F-16s in return for Pakistan facilitating the American invasion of Afghanistan, the officer said, “Now, the Americans have found a new friend in the Indians. But they should know better”.

Why would Pakistan want the J-10? Doesn't it fit a similar role as the F-16 and JF-17?
With the new radars and updates your new Jf-17 block 3 will be just as good as J-10, right?

Sorry, just a bunch of questions. But if Pakistan wants more and different jets shouldn't they go with something heavier and longer range? It just seems to me you would be doubling or tripling up on one thing while you don't really have any of a different sort.
dude we want to replace our Mirages and J-10C is best candidate for replacing our Mirages

Ps: JFT can't replace our all old inventories, and J-10C have bigger AESA which means more AESA's RANGE/modes/more advance EW/ and electronic countermeasure stuffs/ more payloads etc etc

.
okay thanks. Could you explain to me why Pakistan wouldn't prefer something like the J-16 or Su-35?
SU-35 was denied by Russia, we asked Russia in the past, i think the year was 2016, there were lots rumors on Pakistani media and here On PDF that Pakistan was getting Su-35 within 3-4 years

and Pakistan also can't buy J-16 because its based on Su-30MKK of PLAAF, hence its design is RUSSIAN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

“It is said that the Pakistan Air Force now desperately wants Chinese J-10C fighters,” according to a Chinese media report

I believe this is inaccurate.

According PAF J-10 offers nothing that PAF doesnt already have... infact according ACM Shahid Latif (original program director of JF -17) many improvement to the J-10 were made after experience with the JF-17

PAF is looking for fifth generation war planes.

do not we need to raise inventory on an emergency level? we need to replace the old planes or raise the squadron strength.

but when it comes to acquiring fighter planes we always hear we are cash strapped.

If we are left with only option of J-10, we should go for them, it is not that we have JF-17 in the same league with us, it is because we need to raise the strength and that is the only solution with loan facility.

and there is no such thing as finance problem, Pakistan has several times induct systems by acquiring loans, hence we find a solution to it somehow.

otherwise we should stop debating the threat next door.

sounds like the wrong choice to me. I dreamed last night about how China and India are facing off now. Pakistan was no long a main player in the game, just a side kick. Pakistan didn't need anything to balance against India anymore because India has moved up and is balancing against China. Pakistani jets just need to face those Mig-21s. India will have advanced jets to face against China's advanced jets. That was the dream anyways.

I think we are supposed to stop talking about this here bc it is not about the exercise.

I think this is the first time JF-17 B will be participating in a major exercise. This exercise will be a proving ground for its concept, and hopefully a source of information for further tactics development and enhancement. What transpires during the exercise will be indirectly revealed when enhancements are revealed for the B model.

Not sure if from the recent Shaheen IX exercise but anyway it shows how much low-viz the new PLAAF low-visibility markings are.

.
I am just trying to imagine a dog fight at 30000 ft with a JF-17 in hot pursuit of a J-10 with low-vis markings. The Thunder has managed to get onto the tail of the Dragon at a distance of 1-2 km. The Dragon banks hard. Assuming a clean engine exhaust, the dragon would be near invisible to the eye. And this has a psychological effect. Even if the radar paints it on the screen, to get a radar lock you need to position the nose relative to an invisible jet.

Do note that this is speculation on may part.

Shahid Latif's comments were about J10A an old model, now what Chinese and Pakistan Is referring to is a latest improved version. This The latest J-10C is a participant of recent ongoing exercise. It got some coveted features Pakistan is looking for in upcoming JF-17B3. like AESA Radar PL15, improved data link and state-of-the-art cockpit. Its engine is also Chinese.

We are operating Mirages since1967, its gets extremely old, we can't defend CPEC project only relying JFT/F-16, we need better jet than both, So J-10C is the answer

This proves always false in past but they says that we were buying for our defense or not for Pakistan, but sooner or later its proved that particular military purchase was being used against Pakistan by India

Only Eurasia kind of sources can pull such a thing. Can we try to not to share such kind of journalism here? It will be helpful for everyone's mental health.

This is all the conclusion which BJP needs to convince their masses for newly found love with US and such a journalism can only help to make them all believe whatever Modi does so. There's no other cogent reason for such an article.

When journalist has no resources, he resorts to anonymous resources, that is obvious, you know, he is disclosing some super secret information about ongoing secret exercise..
India and Pakistan have fully realigned their interests according new world order, When American chosen India as its strategic ally, Pakistan had to join China. Joining China Has brought back a delicate power balance in the subcontinent.

The mental health, You mentioned, is a result of concern caused by Pakistan warm bonhomie with china. Once, JF-17 was agonising them now J-10 aggravating it more.

Only one thing; many might feel offended to say the least but soon everyone is going to witness that in view of current regional development & geopolitical nature, Pakistan is the "Side". Delhi has somehow started to see it coming but still unable to understand. India has lot of support given the NWO's ambitions in regard to China, Russia and so against the Pakistan being only Muslim Nuclear Power; and started to make necessary preparation as well as spending on the same route but the outcome will be obvious.
