KARACHI: President Mamnoon Hussain Saturday said that Pakistan and China were building a new world based on Pak-China Economic Corridor.

Highlighting the importance of the economic corridor, he said it would be instrumental in ushering a revolution which would benefit the entire region.

The President was talking to a delegation of local businessmen, including Haroon Agar, Raoof Aziz and Hanif Lakhani, here at the State Guest House.

He said that there would be no discrimination among all the people of areas falling on the route of the corridor. Those who were creating hurdles for this mega project would be rejected by the people, he added.

President Mamnoon underlined the need for developing standard infrastructure to make Pakistan one of the most attractive places for tourists in a couple of years.

He said the nation was united and the anti-state forces would never succeed in their designs.

The government and the armed forces, he added, were jointly fighting terrorism in the country and showing positive results.

He expressed satisfaction that after 18th Constitutional Amendment the federation and the provinces were working in cooperation with each other. Working in accordance with the Constitution was a must to ensure rule of law in the country, he added.

The president said the government was working under a comprehensive strategy to provide soft loans to the people for economic stability and reduce unemployment in the country. For this purpose the government should be allowed to work freely, he added.

I've been saying it, the Pakistan the world knew till 2013, was a different Pakistan than the one on the map today. There is significant economic growth already in pipes. And its not depending upon Arabs or their crappy Oil. Everyone has oil now. Russia would love to gain another big customer called Pakistan, who they can supply through a pipeline and incur no shipping or transportation charges!!!

The era of Arabs running Pakistan is over. I am sure they've learned the hard way and the bitter pill was swallowed finally in the past 48 hours. When you need a bigger power's support.....you "request", not threaten it or complain about it. If the Arabs haven't learned that, the next 72 hours will serve as an important "learning opportunity". Pakistani government took the best time to put its foot down and recognized itself as a power broker. Now they should broker the peace if possible and that would really put Pakistan's leverage up there.

There is a total of $ 200 billion worth investment in pipes over the next 3-5 years. Arabs can't match 5% of that. In the next 10 years, Pakistan's economy will have gone up and beyond many Arab countries' economies. So why care about this? Just grow your own country and advance it

This is indeed a massive opportunity, leadership needs to grab the proverbial bull by the horn.....the army and govt need to be in sync....terrorism must be destroyed...and full security given to contractors otherwise this will fall flat on its face. All political parties need to be mature on matters of national interest and security and national consensus on key points.
