They fight using maneuver warfare, which is why a well defended border is something they hate. No opportunity to outflank and do hit and run attacks. They have to either face it directly, with a frontal assault or use indirect fire, such as mortars or rockets.

Studying all the bases they attack in the last 40 years of war will show that their attacks are mostly about intimidation (indirect rocket fire) and opportunistic attacks when troops leave the bases; IEDs. A strong well defended border denies them the opportunity to do any of that.

BTW, old tanks (type 59s) could be turned into “mobile pillboxes”, with the addition of a remote gun system and a telescoping optical system, they could be just the right show of strength to prevent any miscreants from trying the patience of our troops.
