Pakistan CANNOT "conquer Kashmir through war" : Hina Rabbani Khar

.
Amusing to see Pak's obession with CPEC. It is as if Pakistan is Alibaba, China is the Genie and CPEC is the cave filled with riches which will open with the words "Open Sesame".

Obsession may not entirely be the correct word to use.

Its more like giving a man a dream , a crutch , a feel good factor far away in time to hold on to whist going thru the grind of daily life.

How it will pan out is anyone's guess but till 2029 there is something to chew on.

This forum is full of educated, intelligent and prudent members. Let us ignore the emotions and understand the following ground reality:

“Pakistan is not strong enough nor likely to be in the foreseeable to liberate Kashmir from India by force and Indians are not likely to “gift” Kashmir to Pakistan.”

Both India & Pakistan have the nuclear weapons and any serious conflict involving nuclear exchange would simply kill about a million citizens of both the countries, but it would still not liberate Kashmir.

Therefore one needs to think outside the box to find solution of the Kashmir problem. Who owns the real estate is not relevant. Most important thing is that the Kashmiris on both sides of the border are able to intermingle & do business together without too much hindrance.

Once you have freedom of movement of the Kashmiri people between the two parts (Like Canada & the US) the border becomes largely irrelevant & the problem is resolved automatically. Pak Army High Command realized it more than 10 years ago. That is why Musharraf started the Confidence Building Measures (CBM) with the Vajpayee regime. However, subsequent political regimes lack the courage and the vision to pursue this approach.

I keep repeating that retrogressive religious -political parties who were against the creation of Pakistan have hijacked Pakistan ideology. Elected representatives are afraid of the bigoted Maulana Masood Azhar & Munawwar Hassans of today who will never be able to win electoral mandate from Pakistan people.

No doubt some Jamaat Islami followers still believe that they can conquer Lal Qila of Delhi armed with 'lathis' because they have the ‘Jazba’ of Islam. Sadly many naïve Pakistanis also believe this non sense.

If being a Muslim & having ‘Jazba’ alone could conquer the world, pagan Mongols would have not have been able to massacre millions of Muslims including the Abbasside Khalifa Al Mustasim in 1258 or the kafir English able to conquer India and the Ottoman Turks.

Funnily enough it is roughly half the size of the Mumbai Delhi Industrial Corridor - a $90 billion Indo-Japanese project. But no one in India believes it is the answer to all our problems.

Appreciate your views.

I'd go a step further , both nations must realise that they cannot get the part of J&K they do not have. The cost to even attempt such a thing is prohibitive & shall be at the cost to the rest of the nation.

having said this , the answer lies in both nations showing sagacity and accepting the LOC as an IB.

Once done, cross border movement can happen as it does in other parts of the IB.

Those who cross must cross as Pak / Indian nationals and abide by local laws applicable to foreign nationals of the nation they enter .

Short of this , unfortunately given the environment in both nations- it would be a non starter.

Funnily enough it is roughly half the size of the Mumbai Delhi Industrial Corridor - a $90 billion Indo-Japanese project. But no one in India believes it is the answer to all our problems.

Because its not being sold as the panacea to all ills.

You nailed it. Let the people of Kashmir move around freely - it is a no brainer. Free movement of people and goods is a great step toward economic integration. Going back to history - Jinnah had accepted the Cabinet Mission Plan for a loose federal structure in a United India. If something could have been worked out along those lines, the entire region would have saved billions in their absurd defence expenditure and concentrated on education and healthcare of its own citizens. But all that is water under the bridge. Now we are locked in a game of oneupmanship. I fear at some point, someone is going to start a war.

At last a sane post .......

If i could add...... Both the nations doesn't realise the cost we paid since 1947 for this piece of land.......If we keep continue with our bloated ego and jingoism, then it will be the poor which is going to suffer.....

I think Mushraff and MMS was close to resolving this issue, and if one can believe those diplomat's statements, the resolution was closer to what you suggested......But to our bad luck mushraff got in to political turmoil and his successors where not interested to pick up the threads left.........

And it is not pakistanis but Kashmiris who are fighting India and sending dead bodies back to India.

We are just giving moral support to Kashmiris.

All this intermingling and freedom of movement has been tried once. And it didn't deliver anything. It failed. Kashmiris don't want intermingling. They want Azadi. At least I never heard Kashmiri youth shouting and chanting for intermingling with AJK people. I always heard them fighting and shouting for freedom of Kashmir.

Don't you think your "solution" is not viable and people who are the real owners of Kashmir ie Kashmiris don't accept it.

Sir,

I never presumed that it is what Kashmiris want. I merely stated is as a solution to the Status Quo.

What do you suggest . Go to another war with India or live for another 70 years in a state of cold war with India?

Peace and open borders will come after decreased religious fervor on both sides of the border. It will take at least 30-50 years for that.

. . . .
Believe me sir she has no idea. No such thing is taught to our children. Take it from somebody who is in the teaching profession for the last 10+ years
You may be right..... But then have seen sections of text books which has twisted the history and twisted in a way to spread hatred......... May be this is done on a small section of education system ...... You know it better as you are in teaching profession......
