Absolutely. We have failed as a society in the cultural aspect. Each mind needs rest and stimulation away from the problems of our lives. We've always had entertainment in some form or other as a distraction.
Where are our poets? our story tellers? I walked into a masjid in Morocco earlier on this year and a few men were sat with a drum singing nasheeds. The masjid was empty, it was not salah time, they were doing so for love of RasoolAllah (saws) and for the enjoyment of the act itself.
In our communities we've built walls around each other. There is not majlis, there is no chill. We live in our houses, in our rooms, in our phones, in our headphones. How can ideas be exchanged from one generation to the next like this? Before the phones it was TV.
We need libraries, we need time to talk as a family, we need people chatting in coffee houses and masjids and parks and open areas.
In our village 20 years ago at the end of the day, after dinner families would visit each other and talk to each other between the times of Maghrib and Isha. Friends would gather at this time in each others homes, wives and kids in tow. Today everyone is in front of their own phone or tv. It's cultural decay.
