What's new

Pakistan Army received it's first Agusta Westland 139 Helicopter.

I think we would be ordering around 3-4 of these choppers .Would be most probably used for VIP transport.

i disagree, because Pakistan should not need heavy lift birds, because in my point instead of having 3 or 4 heavy lift choppers, its better to have a squadron of medium lift choppers, because of their low cost of maintenance, and maneuverability during conflict time.

secondly these heavy birds are to easy to target, because of their maneuverability .
and for lifting one APC or 155MM gun, i never agree that for that purpose we need to have a heavy lift choppers.
good are Russia usa saudia etc are idiot having CHINKOOK and MI 26

Claps for you we have scientist like you who gives maintenance fuel priority over need of bird

These heavy lifters can be used in rescue operations sending 2 helo instead of one cost u more and AW 139 drinks lesser fuel

Augusta Westland....It sure rings a bell..Hmmmm....Ah yes! They are the biggest kickback company on the planet! I wonder how many millions of dollars have gone into various pockets for signing the deal?

brother,

big birds always use for rescue's, and please read the spec of MI-17 as well..
and i really love to hear your comments from worlds most genius person.

Just read on Dunya news that Pakistan is buying 4 AW 139 choppers for 8 crore dollars.
The choppers would be delivered in next 1 and a half year.
The choppers would be used for SAR missions.

There is no news from MoDP on this development. I heard that they are adding a clause of ToT on every deal whether its from Govt or Military. How come this one passed without that ?

This will eventually end up in the hands of Pakistan army Because, its fall under exact specification of Siachin operational height. Remember its 20,000 feet ceiling. This helicopter is built for high altitude rescue mission.
Plus , probably these helicopter will be maintained by TAI .Turkey must be deal broker.

If true then great because it can be armed with ATGM and rocket pods.

Why do you need such an advance helicopter when this is really a transport heli? The only thing it has that others don't have in Pakistani inventory, is that it flies high to like 15000+ feet. But you could've paid the Russians to give you heavier / upgraded MI's, or Z-18's. You wold get almost 2 heli's for the cost of one. And in China's case, licensed manufacturing inside Pakistan!! And remember, these are NOT combat heli's, so they just do a single role only.

Why spend so much money in acquiring a new system that you really didn't need? At the least, MI's have a rebuild plant soon to be opened in Pakistan. So it would be cheaper in price and cheaper to maintain. The Chinese option would've come with local manufacturing so that's never bad. Slightly used black hawks can be used for both, troop carrying and lighter combat load-outs so you'd at the least use them in dual role to justify this huge cost. $ 14-18 million per piece!!!! That's crazy for a country like Pakistan and especially, when you could've maintained or even licensed built another platform internally!!

Its not about affording it. Your country has started to grow but the money doesn't grow on trees. Plus, when you could be maintaining or licensed building something else, why spend twice as much money for a much more expensive platform? The Chinese would've sold you licensed production of their Z-18 or Z-20 in Pakistan. The Russians would've sold you MI's upgraded close to half the price and brand new!!

If these were jets and you paid $ 75 million for Rafale or EFT, vs. $ 60 million for F-16, block 52, I'd be saying, this was a better deal, even with the $ 25 million gap a pop. But this deal makes no sense. The "technology" used in these jets isn't anything special, all new heli's come with night vision, thermal imaging and heavier engines for heights (in this case, for almost half the cost)!

You said yourself that it can go 15000ft which is one of many reasons Pakistan is purchasing it, flying in northern areas is very difficult and many MI-17 went down there so it is realised that advance multipurpose heli is required which can fly in all weather conditions and still easy to handle with safety.
