I did not just say we support Afghanistan. I said they are our brothers. We are closer to Afghans than we are to you or even the Bangladeshis, who are essentially the muslim half of West Bengal. I do feel your sentiment, and mostly agree, but I really think war with Afghanistan is not in our favour.
There are countries waiting in the wings to play games, as soon as a serious conflict starts between these two countries, India, America and Iran will jump in and few others. I think controlled aggression is far better, keeping it hot and cold, mixing it up a bit.
When they learn how to behave, we should help them all we can.

Son you are talking of one man. Do you realise how much they actually resent and hate you? They are killing your guys regularly. They protect ours. From both sides internally. As long as we stay hands off in their internal affairs, we are treated as guests and they appreciate the help we have always given them. We send them trucks of wheat. And the Taliban openly tell the world that many of those trucks never make it to them with full loads, after transit through your soil. Your country also offers them wheat. Not to be left behind in the eyes of the Indians. But the Taliban says that the wheat is rotten, worm and rodent infested, and not fit for human consumption. Why do that to poor people who are hungry? Especially when you have such bad floods and need all the food you can manage for your own?

I'm not denying that the Afghans hate Pakistanis.

It just seems pretty clear that the friendship is based upon geopolitical relations.
A stable Afghanistan is in Indian interests, as they will be more of a threat to Pakistan.(We've seen that they hate Pakistanis pretty clearly)

Furthermore, saying that any country is friends with another is almost definitely relative, as there will be people who like and dislike others in any country. Furthermore, Afghans don't have any particular reason to hate Indians, especially when they are keeping the pressure on Pakistan from the other side too
