Last week, the Turkish parliament ratified a motion to deploy soldiers in Qatar for six months to provide security during the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Operation World Cup Shield aims to take necessary measures against various threats, especially terrorism, which may affect the security of the organization, said the memorandum.

It also stated that the Turkish Armed Forces elements to be deployed as part of the task will be under national command throughout the entire assignment.

In addition to Pakistan and Turkey, the US, UK, France, and Italy will also provide military support to contribute to Qatar's security during the tournament

Further, Qatar has called hundreds of civilians, including diplomats summoned back from overseas, for mandatory military service operating security checkpoints at World Cup stadiums, according to a source and documents seen by Reuters.

The deployment of conscripts, some of whom would normally defer national service because their work is considered vital, highlights the logistical challenge faced by the tiny Gulf Arab state hosting one of the world's biggest sports tournaments.

The civilians were told they had been called up to assist with the World Cup and that it was their "patriotic duty" to do so, a source said.

Some volunteers are also training alongside the conscripted force, according to the source, who has direct knowledge of the plan and the training.

I dont understand the angst that some Pakistanis have with providing security services in Qatar. Indians, particularly from the South, are good at coding so they are earning IT dollars. BD people are good at textiles so they are making money from garmenting. Punjabis and Pushtoons (like Nepal Gorkhas) are traditionally good at military services so they can earn revenues from these services. Lets not get caught up in this casteist mentality of what is a good and a bad profession.

True, but US and allies were operating independently and charged hundreds of Billion for the show.
Are we doing it for free???
Unlikely.
Plus Qatar is under Turkish sphere of influence, so very important country

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) -Pakistan's cabinet has approved a draft agreement that allows the government to provide troops for security at the FIFA soccer World Cup in Qatar later this year, Pakistan's information minister said on Monday.
A summary outlining the agreement, to be signed between Doha and Islamabad, was approved by the cabinet, minister Marriyum Aurangzeb told Reuters, ahead of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's visit to Qatar starting Tuesday.
It was not immediately clear when the agreement would be signed between the two countries.

The cabinet summary, reviewed by Reuters, said the government of Qatar had requested assistance in security-related aspects of the World Cup between Nov. 21 and Dec. 18 2022, and that Pakistan's military had proposed the signing of an agreement between both states for the purpose.
"The agreement aims to define the obligations of the two parties, the specific specializations, and the number of security personnel to be sent by Pakistan to participate in the security and safety operations," the summary read.
Qatar’s government media office did not immediately confirm or respond to a request to explain why Doha has requested the Pakistani troops or what they will be doing during the tournament.
There was also no immediate response from the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, which is overseeing the organisation of the World Cup, including security.
The summary did not provide any details of the agreement such as how many personnel could be sent.
The approval of the agreement comes a day before Prime Minister Sharif departs for Doha on a two-day visit starting Tuesday.
Sharif will be accompanied by his cabinet ministers, according to a government handout on Monday.
"The two sides will discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, especially to move forward cooperation in energy, trade, and investment opportunities," the handout said.
Sharif is also scheduled to visit a soccer stadium in Doha where he will be briefed about the efforts undertaken by the Qatari government in the World Cup, the handout added.

Will they be erecting security checkpoints around Qatari footbal stadiums throughout the city while keep asking locals to show ID and preventing "foreigners" from "sensitive" areas where football matches will be conducted ?

Very aggressive formation
Military Police.

nothing will be acceptable other than sending one of the strike corps.
MP is directing traffic and writing challans of military drivers every day, its better to send MP than any other fighting or supporting or special Ops formations.

I am glad MP is being sent.

MP cannot do much in Swat else than stand on security checkpoints, guards HQs and guide military traffic. If an Ops in Swat needs to take place, then other police, FC and military formations are more suitable.

I hope we come out of this rent seeking mode. We become self respecting and independent.

Pakistan Army is needed more in KP than anywhere else. If TTP is coming back into Swat, it means either our intelligence agencies are complicit in this for a bigger political game or its just complete failure.

Please ask this military strategist how many operations have been conducted by Military Police so far that sending Military Police to Qatar creates a difference.

He has forgotten that troops sent on UN missions are suitable formations for deployment in Swat and pointing that out would have been more sensible but the biased approach PTI has made him senseless, trying to score brownie points uselessly.
