Dude you want to link terrorism with Indus water treaty. Thanx. We also want the same.

That is why Modi said blood and water will not go together.

.
you have full control over the bold 3 rivers as per IWT. No issues here.

For the other 3 you would have to give us our share. No choice for you.

I am talking about geographical possibility, not legal right, as you commented that Punjab And Kashmir would be flooded, If India stops water.

Not a singe drop would flow from Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej into Pakistan, if GoI decide to do today as they could be diverted into Thar desert (and further onto Arabian sea), as Indira gandhi canal exist to diver that water. Water of these rivers would disappear into Thar desert and whatever left would run off into Rann of Kutch.

Jhelum would need a massive engineering project to cut across Pir-Panjal range, and is difficult to divert.

Indus could not be diverted at all.

No one give a damn about law because if India abrogate IWT, there is nothing that you could do.Neither would anyone except China and brather Islami mulks would interfere. If you complain to international community, they would ask you to first control terrorism on your side.

May be I am wrong but I see it like India's efforts to put as much pressure on Pakistan as it can so that decision makers in Pakistan make a mistake. I hope they don't.

Guess what happens when 4 & 6 stops flowing into pakistan

That's what I got from it as well. What he is saying is that India will fully utilize the water under India's share in the IWT. That's why he is using the word legally which means that they will explore the options of how well they could use the benefits they were allotted in the IWT. Right now India's share flows as well so basically they will try to make sure they utilize their waters to the max.

As long as the treaty remains intact, India cannot touch the waters and benefits that are allotted to pakistan in accordance with this treaty and abrogation of the treaty is nonsensical voice of sensationalist people and analyst. You can't abrogate a treaty you willfully signed with another nation for all times. It would create a huge mess especially in the international arena.

Well as for the rest let's see.

The onus is on us to utilize the waters we have and use them to the max for the benefit of the people. Can't allow water wastage.

I too believe the same.

  1. PM Modi met top officials including the National Security Adviser and Foreign Secretary to assess the 1960 treaty with Pakistan days after the Uri terror attack in which 18 soldiers were killed.
  2. Sources said the government has decided on maximum use of three of the rivers that are governed by Pakistan under the treaty - Indus, Chenab and Jhelum.
  3. The deal was signed between India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistan's president General Ayub Khan after World Bank-brokered negotiations that lasted almost a decade.
  4. Control over the three eastern rivers - the Beas, Ravi and Sutlej - was given to India while the three western rivers went to Pakistan, unrestricted.
  5. India can use only 20 per cent of the water of the Indus, which flows through it first, for irrigation, transport and power generation.
  6. Sources say the government's plan is to exploit an option it hasn't for 30 years - which is to use the western rivers to benefit farmers of Jammu and Kashmir.
  7. "The decision is to store water and maximize irrigation area. With this we would be able to irrigate land in Jammu and Kashmir for nearly six lakh hectares," said sources, adding that the decision also addresses the sentiment of people of the state, who believe the treaty isn't fair to them.
  8. India has been debating whether it can afford to leverage the river agreement to tighten pressure on Pakistan after the Uri terror attack. But officials say India cannot afford to reckon without China, where the river Indus originates. China also holds the controls of the river Brahmaputra, which sustains large parts of India and Bangladesh.
  9. If India were to cut off supply to Pakistan, it could cause major crises in that country as a majority of its areas are dependent on Indus water.
  10. But stopping the flow of the Indus into Pakistan would cause floods in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. Sources say the government wants three dams on the river Chenab to be speeded up, though that is not an immediate solution.

. . .
Maybe the whole point is to corner you enough so that you make a mistake. But i don't know if this is part of any larger plan...

We are not stupid like your modi jee!
If we were to make a mistake...we would have ended up like Iraq, Iran, Lybia and Syria...

Under the treaty, the water of six river - Beas, Ravi, Sutlej, Indus, Chenab and Jhelum - was to be shared between India and Pakistan. (HT File Photo)
  • Mutual trust must for treaties like on Indus water to work, says India

  • Under the treaty, which was signed by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistan president Ayub Khan, the water of six rivers — Beas, Ravi, Sutlej, Indus, Chenab and Jhelum — is shared between the two countries.

The pact, brokered by the World Bank, survived three wars between the two countries and constant strain in their bilateral ties.

There is now a clamour to use the pact to bring the neighbour to mend its ways after the Uri attack proved Pakistan is both unable and unwilling to stop its territory from being used by terrorists against India The Indus agreement deals with six rivers — the three eastern rivers of Ravi, Beas, Sutlej and their tributaries and the three western rivers of Indus, Jhelum, Chenab and their tributaries. Water from the eastern rivers has been allocated to India, and New Delhi is obligated to let 80% water from the western rivers flow to Pakistan.

Read | Why Indus water treaty is a bad bargaining chip for India

The Indus water treaty gives the lower riparian Pakistan more “than four times” the water available to India. Despite such liberal terms, Pakistan and India have often sparred over the amount of water released.

Reviewing the treaty, however, will be a difficult proposition for India.

Pakistan’s all-weather ally China is the upper riparian state in the Brahmaputra, a river that flows into India’s northeast. Making any precedent in which an upper riparian state is overbearing can give hints to Beijing on the water-sharing issue, which doesn’t augur well for India.

Reviewing this treaty will definitely urge Pakistan to take retaliatory actions. by the way india is not abiding by indius treaty as it should be. Construction of Baghliar Dam is its example and was taken to international court by Pakistan.
In my opinion ,cancellation of this treaty may urge Pakistan to cancel its "Stand Still" agreement and advance further in indian occupied Kashmir (the disputed area), as most of the rivers come from Kashmir.
One action from india will give many options to Pakistan, as Pakistan is fully prepared and not afraid of war.

This modi chutya is so desperate that unable to capitalize Uri attacks for any kind of military aggression on Pakistan he is now trying to turn the tide towards water terrorism....

. .
India does not have enough storage facility to create a supply problem immediately for Pakistan.

It has to raise its dam structures and that will take time. There is also another angle to it. India, even if it wants to, cannot take the water out of Kashmir Valley.

So, the water of the three rivers (Indus, Jhelum and Chenab) will remain in their basin and India cannot divert that to other areas due to geographical reasons. India can stop the supply for some time, but cannot divert it,

We don’t necessarily need to go to the extent of scrapping the Indus Waters Treaty.
We should use the waters of western rivers of Indus basin for irrigation, electricity and storage of up to 3.6 Million Acre Feet (MAF), well within the norms laid down in the treaty, that would be as good as blowing up a "new-clear-bomb" for as such now.
