Pakistan And India-Water Disputes-News And Updates

Absolutely right move, long awaited.Another turn to the screw tightening pakistan.
They have taken Indian generosity granted. Now make them pay for their continuous poking.

So I guess the Pakistanis would want water released at some point. So if the Dams break (like the joke in Netherlands), the water will flow directly to Pakistan? Is India wanting Pakistan to "fetch" her water? That's possible in many ways :enjoy:

stop talking nonsense. Just because you sit on river flows doesn't mean you can treat it like your grandfather gifted it to you. Pak is entitled to their fair share of the water.
Please dont take side of the Pakistanis. I now you are left wing and we have political differences but dont be like @Joe Shearer

In current scenario it is better to think about Indians and India's interest rather than Pakistan's

oh screw you, being stupid is not a virtue and this is not a question of left or not west.

I remember several strategists have been warning in talk shows that the next war between Pakistan and India will be over water.

And India will try to manufacture something to initiate it. So be ready for several Samjhota Expresses during Modi's tenure.

You are being logical brother amount idiots.
I read your comment didn't agree. So did a little research and now I agree 100%.
We must stay away from this treaty , we can get in big soup and whole world will get together against us for such inhuman act. We will also loose our hand on Indus aspect.
Also what if China does same for Brahmaputra, on ethical level too it's wrong to deny water.

More water for our farmers, awesome :enjoy:why should we share when they are hell bent on killing us?

I am sure Indian politicians are still going to do stupid moves instead of letting people of Kashmir be free to choose their merge with Pakistan

You are lucky our PM was quite polite about the issue at UN and discussing peace and vote for Kashmir

India Does Not Rule Out Cutting Off Indus Water To Pakistan

HIGHLIGHTS
  1. India and Pakistan signed the Indus Waters Treaty in 1960
  2. Under the treaty, India can use only 20% of the water of the Indus
  3. If India were to cut off water supply, it could trigger a crisis in Pak
Amid plummeting ties over the Kashmir unrest and Uri terror attack, India today did not rule out scrapping the Indus water treaty with Pakistan if it doesn't act against terror from its soil.

At a press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup, when asked whether cancelling the Indus pact was an option, said: "Eventually any cooperative arrangement requires goodwill and cooperation on both sides."

When pressed for a more specific response, Mr Swarup said: "For any such treaty to work, it is important for mutual trust and cooperation. It cannot be a one-sided affair."

India and Pakistan signed the Indus Waters Treaty, brokered by the World Bank, in 1960.

According to this agreement, control over the three eastern rivers - the Beas, Ravi and Sutlej - was given to India and the three western rivers - the Indus, Chenab and Jhelum - went to Pakistan.

Under the treaty, India can use only 20 per cent of the water of the Indus, which flows through it first, for irrigation, transport and power generation.

If India were to cut off supply to Pakistan, it could cause major crisis in that country as a majority of its areas are dependent on Indus water.

The tenuous ties between India and Pakistan have been stretched thin over Pakistan's attacks on India at the UN with references to the Kashmir protests and Sunday's attack at an army base in Uri in the Valley, in which 18 soldiers were killed by terrorists of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, whose chief Masood Azhar is based in Pakistan.

New Delhi summoned Pakistan's High Commissioner Abdul Basit yesterday and presented to him, evidence of Pakistan's role in a series of attacks including in Pathankot in January and Uri.

The government also responded to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's UN speech, in which he raised the Kashmir protests and glorified terrorist Burhan Wani, with a sharply worded statement.

"The land of Taxila, one of the greatest learning centres of ancient times, is now host to the Ivy League of terrorism," India said, calling Pakistan a terrorist state.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said: "We do not need to produce a dossier. The whole world knows what Pakistan's role is in sponsoring terror."

The Good will expired as soon as Indian attacked pakistan in 1965, 1971 , any cut on Pakistans would be war. That would a suicidal move by India

Under the treaty , we had gave up some rights over the Eastern flowing rivers
in order that India does not messes with Western rivers

Therefore it is suggested , Indian politicians (realize the importance) of leting Kashmiri vote by democratic means so we don't move towards such a 100-200 year impact scenario. Respect the will of international community for freeing Kashmir

People who suggest on water cuts , or abuse against civilian populations should know , we have moved on , and we demand a peaceful end to crisis for people of Kashmir. We do not wish to even entertain any idea of water cuts

And politicians of India need to smell the coffee.
