They tried to acquire the older KC's. Then, they bought the Russian one's as their JFT and Mirages would combine become a force three times that of the F-16's. So it made sense to have refueling options for 70% of your aircrafts than just the F-16's.

Plus due to China / Russia focus, other aircraft you'd acquire, would also use the same refueling options as JFT does. So it made sense to get the Il-78 tankers. But the discussions were on the table for one or two older KC's.

I'd imagine if the PAF bought 18-36 more new or used F-16's ever, a couple of used KC's would also become a reality.

We weren't on very good terms, the Pressler Amendment had just kicked in. It was requested along with the 16s that never came. At least that's what I've read.

i think PAF should try MRTT-310

PAF looked into this but A-310 MRTT were out of production. A-330 MRTT were offered but PAF declined as being too expensive.

So far the JF-17 has been pitched against the likes of F-16, F/A 18, F-15, SU-27, Mirage-2000 and other numerical fighters.
What about your Tejas, has it left it's trailer yet. !!!
