Pak to bid for non-permanent UNSC seat next year

and the toss up it will be, you can kiss your seat good bye ;)

Pls read the part you have quoted.

No U Turns in India like Mush. Seats can come & go,India will stay with J&K an integral part.

if loosing kashmir means giving it to pakistan or giving it any kind of independence...just forget it.

if loosing means resolving the issue in accordance with what Mushy-MMS agreead upon, while turning LoC as border and offering much greater people to people contact...sure yes, why not?

Mushy tried to play a good dictator and compromised alot for a solution, you guys had the chance then, guess what he is not here any more.
How about solving the Kashmir issue according to resolution of the same UNSC you are proudly a part of :D Resolution 47

its a far fetched dream for me to even think that India would come out of its bigotry and actually support Pakistan in this endeavor.

O Koi gal nee pappe...we have been waiting for 63 years to settle it as per our interests....we are willing to wait as long as the situation demands.

BTW..whatever happened to the 1000 year war you were going to have on kashmir?

You'd do well to go through this:

No, i ignored it.. since shrewd diplomacy is what you are proud of its about time you should consider politics aspects of the seat aswell.

We have thats why..we want the seat... to veto any future UNSC resolution against Indian interests. ;)

Hellooo, to get a permanent seat at UNSC you have to solve kashmir issue on the same UNSC mandate.. you have won the seat with string attached.

There are no compulsion or strings attached.
UNSC resolution on Kashmir is not mandatory..and to get a UNSC seat..India has to get 2/3rd votes in it favor and no vetos ..presently India has 2/3rd votes and 4 of 5 Veto members on India's side.

There wont be any new permenant UNSC with veto rights members in near future. Not even in the lifetime of this UN.

Let me try to 'explain' pakistan's vote for India:

India was widely expected to win and frankly speaking, Pakistan's vote against India would not have made much of a difference.

But Pakistan has made a smart move by voting for India. Why? It now gives them the right to demand reciprocal treatment.

'Ek teer se do shikaar.' That's what Pakistan has done. Now they've put India in a spot as to whether to vote for or against.

Pakistan's vote in essence did not make any difference and yet gave them an opportunity to play the 'goodwill gesture' card with India.

Although, I have serious doubts if Pakistan would still have voted in India's favour had there not been such a wide support for India's candidature.

P.S. I see a strategic opening here for India. Now think, when the issue of Permanent membership comes up and Pakistan led 'Coffee club' seeks to stall India's moves, at that time this vote by Pakistan in India's favour now will prove instrumental to counter whatever 'logic' being promulgated by Pakistan against giving India the permanent membership.
The 'logic' won't work since one is permanent member with Veto powers and Pakistan's argument has always been that if one day UN magically decides to force a resolution that it would force India to accept its plebiscite demand, then India can just veto it.

Truth is everyone gets a chance to become UNSC. India and Pak both have had 12 years, and the world just balances it out. Now India's tally would reach 14, so it would be Pakistan's turn.

Expansion of UNSC permanent members is not possible. You should focus on solving kashmir issue, dont co-relate them.
