Pak govt asks Fayyazul Hassan Chohan to resign as Punjab minister

Pakistani Punjab's Information Minister Fayyaz-ul Hassan Chohan of the ruling PTI has been sacked after facing severe criticism from members of his party for making derogatory remarks about Hindus.

The PTI government in Pakistan’s Punjab on Tuesday, 5 March, tweeted that it had “removed Fayyaz Chohan from the post of Punjab Information Minister following derogatory remarks about the Hindu community”.

“Bashing someone’s faith should not be a part of any narrative. Tolerance is the first and foremost pillar on which Pakistan was built,” the party had said.

Chohan had referred to the Hindu community as "cow urine-drinking people" at a recent press conference, as per IANS.

"We are Muslims and we have a flag, the flag of Maula Ali's bravery, the flag of Hazrat Umar's valour. You (Hindus) don't have that flag, it isn't in your hands," he had said.

"Don't operate under the delusion that you're seven times better than us. What we have, you can't have, you idol worshippers," he had said in a video that went viral on social media.

‘Won’t Tolerate Remarks Against Minority’

His remarks were condemned by Prime Minister Imran Khan and other key political leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) for his insensitivity towards the Hindus, a minority in Pakistan.

Khan had termed Chohan's remarks "inappropriate" and said, "We will not tolerate remarks against any minority community."

The minister had then apologised and said his comments were directed only at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian media.

The words he used, we use all day long on pdf....
The criticism he faced for calling Hindus urine drinkers, I think I have seen every person on pdf criticising fayaz ul hassan chohan has made the same remarks to some Hindu in the past.
Well it was good of Pti to remove him.
But still let's be honest, we don't like his face and accent that's all. If someone else is in suit and have a handsome face and he would insult you and you would listen to him obiediantly. Punjab has a mentality of having someone who can make the people look little, who is tyrannical and make them feel less.. Only then they would accept him as their owner..
Anyways good work by removing him.
You are absolutely right about the members and the only reason is that they don't follow their own religion (Islam).

Islam is a religion of peace, love, and mercy. Allah Almighty and His Messenger Prophet Muhammad (SAW) teach us to be kind, loving and merciful with Muslim brothers and also with Non-Muslims. So we can say the religion that asks its members to greet one another with love, peace, mercy, and blessings, does not allow cursing one another even non-muslims because if you do then you would get same response against your own religion, so on that time it is suggested to tolerate and reply logically, scientifically to pursue your opponent.

Cursing is of two types: The first one is swearing, saying and meaning something bad to someone through vulgar language which is usually done in modes of losing temper, joking around or because someone has just become used to using such foul words in their speech. So, it is important for those to maintain their anger to the bare minimum and not be induced to swear for the sake of releasing their anger and offending someone else. Allah Almighty says in the Noble Quran: “Who spend (in the cause of Allah) during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people – and Allah loves the doers of good.” (Quran, 3:134)

The second one is an expressive wish against a person in hope that he/she undergoes some sort of misfortune. This can be related to the evil eye, black magic or just plain old hatred which imposes thoughts on one’s mind to do harm directly or indirectly upon someone else. Cursing in somehow is a sort of punishment, and we are strictly prohibited from carrying out any act of this sort. Allah (SWT) stated in the Noble Quran: “Not for you, [O Muhammad, but for Allah], is the decision whether He should [cut them down] or forgive them or punish them, for indeed, they are wrongdoers.” (Quran, 3:128)

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) taught us to be kind with others just like He (SAW) was merciful even with His enemies. Abu Huraira (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was told, “O Messenger of Allah, pray against the idolaters!” So the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Verily, I was not sent to invoke curses, but rather I was only sent as a mercy.” (Muslim)

Muslims should neither curse each other nor non-muslims as narrated Samurah Ibn Jundub (RA) that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “Do not curse one another, invoking the curse of Allah or Wrath of Allah or the fire of Hell” (Tirmidhi). The act of cursing is such that one who does it can himself become a recipient of it.

Allah Almighty says in the Noble Quran: “O you, who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them, nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one’s] faith. And whoever does not repent – then it is those who are the wrongdoers.” (Quran, 49:11)

Abu Huraira (RA) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “A man utters a word pleasing to Allah without considering it of any significance for which Allah exalts his ranks (in Jannah); another one speaks a word displeasing to Allah without considering it of any importance, and for this reason he will sink down into Hell.” (Bukhari)

Those who curse others will not be granted the honor of interceding on the Day of Judgment. The Messenger of Allah Prophet (PBUH) said in one of His hadith: “Those who indulge in curses will not be intercessors or witnesses on the Day of Resurrection.”(Muslim)

Using foul language and cursing is a sin, even in joke and this is a characteristic of the people of Hellfire.

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “The inmates of Hell are of five types….” And among them, he mentioned “…the miser, the liar and those who are in the habit of abusing people and using obscene and foul language.” (Muslim)

In Islam we can only criticize on bad deeds/character/implementation but not behalf of religious beliefs.

Sharp tongue but that can be difficult to control when sensitivity required. Resignation is a fair punishment.

It was a joke.... Pakistanis these days are turning into sensitive little girls
I'm sure you would say the same if let's say someone said you mother is a cow piss drinker, or that she's a good for nothing person, or if they used derogatory terms for the prophet Muhammad PBUH.im sure you would still consider it a joke

Hypocrisy at it's best.

Blasphemy in Islam is impious utterance or action concerning God, "Blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad and his companions (sabb al-rasul, sabb al-sahabah)", insulting an angel or to deny the prophethood of one of the Islamic prophets. The Quran admonishes blasphemy, but does not specify any worldly punishment for blasphemy. The hadiths, which are another source of Sharia, suggest various punishments for blasphemy, which may include death. However, it has been argued that the death penalty applies only to cases where there is treason involved that may seriously harm the Muslims, especially during times of war. Different traditional schools of jurisprudence prescribe different punishment for blasphemy, depending on whether the blasphemer is Muslim or non-Muslim, a man or a woman.

Good riddance. No room for such morons here. Pakistan fighting back against such bigotry. This past week is certainly a surreal one.

does the forum intent to implement the srandard set by the government 'atleast' ?
We always attempt to, and since I can only speak for myself, I will either delete or edit a post that makes such derogatory references.

Unfortunately, a lot of times I've arrived on a thread that is several dozen pages long where the discussion is riddled with derogatory comments against other faiths, mostly by Pakistanis. It becomes hard to attend to the huge amount of posts that need moderation.

What we need is for the majority of Pakistanis to exercise some common sense and self-restraint - you're not all school children that need the moderators danda 24/7 to behave. Take some responsibility and refrain from derogatory comments and insults directed at other individuals or faiths. (i mean that as a general comment, not directed at you specifically).

'Never underestimate power of social media':

Former Punjab information and culture minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan's highly problematic comments against members of the Hindu community on February 24 would have virtually faded into oblivion, had it not been for a tweet posted more than a week later by Pakistani human rights activist Kapil Dev.

"This is what we get in response to our love & patriotism for #Pakistan from @PTIPunjabPK Minister @Fayazchohanpti using derogatory words for #Hindus ... without realizing that #4million Hindus live here," Dev wrote on Monday evening.

Chohan, notorious by now for his blustering style of speech, was addressing an event in Lahore when responding to India's rhetoric in the aftermath of the Pulwama bombing, he conflated Indians with Hindus and used disparaging words for the religious community.

The minister claimed that his comments were directed against Indians and not Pakistani Hindus, but as a video clip accompanying Dev's tweet of the derisive remarks went viral, Twitterati used the hashtag '#SackFayazChohan' to ask the government to take action against him and remove him from his post.

The pressure worked, and less than 24 hours later, Chohan was sent packing.

Soon after the announcement, Pakistani and Indian netizens took to Twitter to laud the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government for swiftly moving against their minister and more importantly, to underscore the undeniable power of social media in today's hyperconnected world.

"I am so glad & relieved. This is [the] power of tweeple," Dev tweeted after Chohan's resignation. "It all started from my single tweet & within 24 hours #FayazulHassan is sacked."

"Never underestimate the power of social media! One tweet can remove a minister from his seat," wrote Islamabad resident Ali Haider.

Never underestimate the power of social media!
One tweet can remove a minister from his seat. @Fayazchohanpti disrespected Hindus, PK Hindus responded with a might and the entire nation, irrespective of religion, stood behind them.
Proud being your friend @KDSindhi!
