From the comments of the PAK FA developers one thing is clear that they wanted to to develop PAK FA as F-22 killer.

.
Is that a PS'ed pic? PAK-FA stands atleast 20cm taller than Su-35 and atleast 1m longer than Su-35. Check and compare specs for both these aircraft.
So why does PAK-FA look so small in comparison?

As far as I know PAK FA is not taller than SU-35 but longer. Its looks like due to angle and moving fins.

At the end of the 90s, the Russian aerospace industry was in an interesting situation. On the one hand, it has two demonstrator-run fifth-generation combat aircraft - financial problems and postponing dates affected MiG 1:44 and predominantly privately funded Su-47, which stood against the light combat aircraft program of LFS. Neither of these projects, however, the new geopolitical situation does not appear just perfect in its ability to meet the requirements of the modern battlefield and hardly could create a counterweight to the U.S. F-22nd. In 1998 therefore initiated studies of new aircraft in the middle weight category, which could accommodate somewhere between the lighter type of American F-35 and heavier F-22. Major initiatives developed mainly by Sukhoi, which wanted to create a new aircraft, whose performance is similar to the type Su-27, but with distinctly lower take-off weight, somewhere at 23 ton. The aircraft escaped colloquial name Ushastik (perhaps could it be translated as "the one with big ears" - that is, probably vertical tail). The most important result of these studies was that Russia can not afford to develop two different categories of the new fifth-generation machine, and should focus only on a universal project that could reasonably meet all requirements. In practice, this meant a definite end demonstrator 1:44 MiG MFI and also end any hope for the realization of the serial design.

After clarification of all requests for new universal machine was in 1999 declared PAK FA program (Perspektivnyj Aviacionnyj Kompleks Frontovoj Aviacii). low fly-away price, the use of engines and avionics of the fifth generation and the ability of short take off and landing. Undoubtedly it is the largest aviation project since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The West won in that time quite cogent anti-alias JSF. Requirements for the new machine during the year 2000 and continuously fine-tuned their final version saw the light of day in April 2001. One of them is at least as an operating radius of 1200 kilometers, mainly because of the relatively sparse network of combat airport. Call to submit their proposals have received any significant Russian design bureau. At AOOT Sukhoi was suggested under the name T-50, indicating both rhomboid or triangular wing while the aircraft from the workshop RSK MiG acting under a semi-official designation MiG-E. . The SAR Yakovlev understand that they have little chance of success and thus take neprehrateľnú position. With its competitors have signed a cooperation agreement under which they developed from the winning start with a short version and vertical landing (KVVP), designed specifically for the deployment of new aircraft carriers with nuclear propulsion ATAKR class. General manager of military programs, Konstantin Popovich declared the company's efforts to acquire 30 percent stake in the project. In order for the earliest possible introduction of service in the ranks and was winner of the saving of costs together with its competitors to develop and manufacture aircraft. . While this concept has been applied in Western countries since the eighties, in Russia it's quite an unusual procedure. Ale časy sa menia. But times are changing.

India, Russia to sign agreement for dev of FGFA

Moscow, Mar 9 (PTI) India and Russia are expected to sign the first of a series of agreements for the development of fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) to meet futuristic requirements of the Indian Air Force during Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's visit to New Delhi later this week.

"We expect to ink the agreement for the development of FGFA design and its technical parameters after March 10," sources in the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) said.

The comments come ahead of Putin's two-day visit to New Delhi begining Thursday.

The twin-stick two seater version of the futuristic multi-role fighter jet for the IAF would be developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and 'Sukhoi' Corporation, which is part of the Russian integrated aircraft manufacturer UAC on the parity basis

It would seem that PAKFA will have bubble canopy!! :agree:
