Pak engineer makes car that runs on water

Seems to be a plentiful, inexpensive, and easily renewable resource.

Of course, tears are easier for some than others. This guy will have all the fuel he will ever need for his car:

Whats with these theories of thermodynamics ?
Where law states that splitting of water molecule in to oxygen and hydrogen is necessarily greater than combustion of hydrogen got from the process ?
Does the same law applies if hydrogen used for fusion and hence energy ?

It isn't a viable solution. If it was everyone would be doing it. Water based solutions have been around for years, but they aren't feasible when compared to more modern power plant alternatives.

If this type of coverage has been given to various other hard working scientists of Pakistan, making them popular figure, more Pakistani students would have opted to go into research to work for their country and gain popularity too.

All I can say is this:

Had this been feasible, I should say my last 20 yrs of education was a waste. Now even this looks realistic.

It will be huge success in India, if it runs on water. Especially public defection (p1ssing) will decrease, clean env.

@vcheng
my ignorance aside
which law are you referring ?
Now please tell me do law of thermodynamics says that controlled fusion is impossible ?
How you bought thermodynamics in to this subject ?

Please read and understand these first:

The four laws of thermodynamics define fundamental physical quantities (temperature, energy, and entropy) that characterize thermodynamic systems. The laws describe how these quantities behave under various circumstances, and forbid certain phenomena (such as perpetual motion).

The four laws of thermodynamics are:

Zeroth law of thermodynamics: If two systems are in thermal equilibrium with a third system, they must be in thermal equilibrium with each other. This law helps define the notion of temperature.

First law of thermodynamics: Heat and work are forms of energy transfer. Energy is invariably conserved but the internal energy of a closed system changes as heat and work are transferred in or out of it. Equivalently, perpetual motion machines of the first kind are impossible.

Second law of thermodynamics: The entropy of any isolated system not in thermal equilibrium almost always increases. Isolated systems spontaneously evolve towards thermal equilibrium -- the state of maximum entropy of the system -- in a process known as "thermalization". Equivalently, perpetual motion machines of the second kind are impossible.

Third law of thermodynamics: The entropy of a system approaches a constant value as the temperature approaches zero. The entropy of a system at absolute zero is typically zero, and in all cases is determined only by the number of different ground states it has. Specifically, the entropy of a pure crystalline substance at absolute zero temperature is zero.

ENTROPY
For isolated systems, entropy never decreases. This fact has several important consequences in science: first, it prohibits "perpetual motion" machines; and second, it implies the arrow of entropy has the same direction as the arrow of time.

Entropy and molecule complexity
In a situation where a reaction involves equal moles hydrogen gas (H2) on the reactant side and water vapor (H2O) on the product side, would the reaction be spontaneous? Due to the complexity of the shapes of the molecules, water vapor would be favored and the forward reaction would be spontaneous. Since water vapor's has a bent shape compared to hydrogen gas's linear shape, it has a larger array of possible positions that each molecule can be situated as at some particular point in time. The second law of thermodynamics says that an increase in entropy is favored, which is why the statement before is valid.

Aluminium was an expensive material ..some one found a easy way to extract it from its ore ..it became commonly used metal now ..
There is always a possibility of finding better way to do a work .. There should be proper analysis before rejecting it

Yes, but what is being suggested is more like turning lead into gold using hammers and pitchforks. Try doing that please. :D

What if he brings Artificial Transmutation.....

I have seen this setup at my colleagues' home workshop, he has connected this to a generator and produces electricity to power few bulbs - it was just an experiment which sort of worked.
I agree with you, this kit setup on it own cannot generate enough to fire a 4 cylinder combustion engine; perhaps aid in improving fuel economy

considering the fuel efficiency of the most efficient engine we have, the car shudnt run.

even the best engines known to man dont work at efficiency greater than 60%. and even the 60% engine is hypthetical.

The more probable case is that the generator was running the electrolysis and no the other way round

........... using hammers and pitchforks? :D Please go ahead, I would like to see that happen.

(No tokamaks allowed, you see. :P )

once the water molecule is broken will require same energy to bond together the oxygen and hydrogen will exist in separate moloecular states after giving off the energy

All the chemical reactions can be categorized in two types:

1. Endothermic reaction

2. Exothermic reaction

As the names suggest, Endothermic reactions absorb energy while Exothermic reactions release energy.

When chemical bonds are created by the process of Exothermic reaction, such as in case of creation of water, energy is released, and to reverse the process you need to put in energy just as much energy to break the bond to get the individual elements.

When Electrolysis breaks the bonds of water to separate Hydrogen, it gives in a specific amount of energy. While the same Hydrogen is burned as a fuel to create water as the by product, same amount of energy is released, but only a fraction of that released energy can be tapped to get any work done.

Thus, the amount of energy required to separate Hydrogen will always be equal to the energy released, but multiple times greater than the energy tapped, after burning the same Hydrogen.

Take this example:

100 units of Energy sent into the battery of the car to separate Hydrogen.

90 units of energy will be absorbed by battery to do the process, while 10 units will be dissipated in the form of sound and heat and vibrations of the atoms.

90 units of energy saved inside the Hydrogen atoms will be used to run the engine of the car.

30 units is the energy that will be used by the car its movement, with rest of it (60 joules) wasted in the form of heat and sound.

20 units of this energy will again be utilized by the car, while 10 units will be sent back to the battery to perform that Endothermic reaction.

10 units of energy utilized by the battery in the second term will in turn produce Hydrogen worth only 9 units of energy, and the process will go on with diminishing quantities.

This process can only be continued with the external input of energy, mainly from the fossil fuels, and make this process at least 10 times costlier than using the fossil fuel directly to move the car.

I wrote it for you because you appear to be the most ardent supporter of this fraud and the talk-show videos involving this man Waqar, and the Chairman of PCSIR Dr. Pervaiz Shoukat (who is wholeheartedly endorsing this idea) are making rounds in international online fora and no one is missing a chance to poke fun at the level of Pakistani intellectuals.

I hope you understand the level of disservice you are doing to the Pakistani community.
