Pak Army to plant 1 crore trees this monsoon: ISPR

. . .
That costs money, I'm iffy on even this, as I consider that it should be a government initiative, not an army one.

But that's just me.
Their plantation drive will aim at areas that are under the military administrition, primarily cantonments. Civil setup hardly has any presence there, in consequence it becomes a task well suited to be carried out by military itself.

This is good, Pakistan needs many trees. At least 30-50 billion trees are needed to be planted through out Pakistan. Tree planting should not end, it should continue where ever in Pakistan trees are needed.

Waziristan, Balochistan & Sindh should be planted with trees.

pak needs to seriously work in this matter. in my opinion we can work of following lines:
1. plant more and more trees. the govt should make a policy that every house owner who has a lawn must have a tree in it.
2. the type of the trees matter a lot. dont plant eucalyptus trees on fertile lands. it sucks lot of underground water and the water level recedes. it should be planted in areas with water logging and salinity.
3. timber mafia should be dealt with iron hand.
4. the locals in northern areas ruthlessly cut pines and fir trees for building their homes and for fuel. this practiced needs to be curbed as these trees take centuries to fully grow up. for this purpose the govt can take measures by supplying to these areas alternate fuel sources like kerosene oil at lower prices or forests of rapidly growing trees should be planted to provide wood to the locals for fuel and building purposes. the deforestation of pine and fir forests is leading to flash floods, land sliding and overall decrease in the beauty of these areas. i recently visited kumrat .an amazing place but it will not be the same in next 25 years or so. the locals are cutting the pines and firs for constructing small huts even for the animals.

no housing society and industries should be built on agricultural land. the govt should make industrial zones in barren lands which are not fit for agriculture like for example the salt range. industrial zones with roads, railways, schools and hospitals and other necessary infrastructure should be constructed away from the major cities and fertile land.

There is a dire need to save existing trees as well. In naran valley, I recently witnessed khana badosh people making their make shift camps at crucial and beautiful places with lot of trees. I asked a local boy, is cutting of trees still going on? He said yes. It is done late in the night. the trees that are cut take decades to grow. Therefore, army should plant trees of that species that have been cut in naran and at the same time government should expel such gypsies / khana badosh from such areas which are heavily forested declaring areas like naran as national Park where you can go but you cannot build houses. Only then you can ensure green Pakistan.

NOTE:- There is a negative as well. Some army men were involved in smuggling wooden trees that were cut during swat operation. So such tendency should also be checked by army top brass and should never be tolerated.

Lastly, all provincial governments should ensure that 25% area of all districts should be composed of fruit trees gardens. This will not only increase tree cover but will also increase production of fruits for export.

it should be a government initiative
It should be public's initiative.. just two plants every month for each family member.. and we will be 40 crore plants every month..

But I know this will never happen..

Yes, need to make sure that trees planted are native; we had the same challenge with invasive species which were sucking water across entire cape province; eradication program is still on going.

I hope that plus tonnes of solar projects which will eliminate the need for coal power plants which is such short sighted thinking

it should be repeat every year . then it will effect weather
