PAF increases aerial surveillance

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday put its air force on alert and increased aerial surveillance of key cities – a day after India said its options to avenge the Mumbai terror attacks include war.

During the course of the day, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter jets flew several times over Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and other cities as a precautionary measure.

Sources said PAF had alerted all of its forward bases – including Lahore, Sargodha and Chaklala – to bring down the response time. “The air force is ready to deal with any situation,” said the sources, adding that the flights over key cities were not part of a ‘routine’ exercise. They said Pakistan was ‘concerned’ about and taking all precautionary measures to deal with an attack.

Meanwhile, PAF itself issued a one-line statement saying that the force had increased surveillance in view of the current security situation. “In view of current environment, PAF has enhanced its vigilance,” said the statement. The sources said Pakistan had been forced to alert its air force in view of recent statements by Indian leaders and the provocative movement of Indian forces.

Meanwhile, a high-level meeting under the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman was held in Islamabad to discuss national security, according to APP. Residents in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore made panicked telephone calls to media organisations to ask about the low-flying fighter jets.

CAA: A Civil Aviation Authority official told Daily Times that the Lahore and Islamabad airports were not sealed on Monday, but no passenger aircraft were allowed to take off while the fighter jets were in the air.

“This is what happened on Monday, and no passenger aircraft took off when the PAF jets were flying over Islamabad and Lahore,” he said.

coz small number of planes
out of which small number are BVR capable
Out of agian these small number can fly in nights
SO problematic

If we have small number of aircraft as compared with IAF so this is not an Issue because u should also compare the covered area of both countries,
Yes I agree with the capabilities of the PAF aircrafts which are slightly low … but as we all know that aircraft is nothing more than a flying machine… there is a man on the seat…. And we all know that our PAF is very vigilant in this regards….
Although this time our target is hard but we can do it…. and we have to do it… and we will do it….Inshal’Allah

Guys I have one query. In India the air space is controlled by civilian as well as military authorities. Until there is war time IAF don't have access to air space all the time. Is this is the same in Pakistan also?

Of course I agree with the rest of your statements epool sahib. Also you are right about the statement that it is not the ISI's job, but it would be a good idea anyways and no one would have to know it is a branch of ISI, just that it is a prominent think tank on par with CFR, etc that secures Pakistan's interests abroad and balances the image being muddled by others. We have to catch up in this field or every year we will find the entire world lined up at our borders thinking we are North Korea or something.

The same could be done under the aegis of IB which has the right access-base to all the embassies in the world. It is just a matter of prioritizing which unfortunately our Government is incompetant in.

In peacetime the airspace is mostly controlled by our Civil Aviation Authority or CAA. In wartime that task is shifted to the PAF Air Traffic Control and Army Air Defence.

PAF has flown planes which are not even mentioned in our inventory and senior Web/defense anaylsts have been grasping to know the type of the plane ! (90% of that mystry is solved but why to mention it here).

Hang on there mate ... PAF will give you the bang for the price ! Just wait & see .. & our neighbours & West are sweating already over the issues .

Indian Home Minister Chidambaram is on his way to the USA to get some anti-Pakistan mileage and to complain about the seemingly 'lack of interest' by the US and the western capitals in the Mumbai Mow Down!

PAF air patrol and on-going ADA would be prudent at this time to ensure that the said meeting remains a complaint session rather than turning into a 'The Reason we attacked Pakistan was because.........''!! chat session between Condi and Chidambaram!

In last 2 days, Islamabad's airspace is again hot with PAF fighters and they fly in pairs every now and then. i think they fly toward pak-indo kashmir borders which btw is not that far from islamabad.
