I am presuming that the reason why F-16 was offered was that in the past; A-7 Corsairs were offered as a carrot in lieu of the reprocessing plant, than in mid seventies; the F-5 & F-5E, and than the offer to transfer the production of F-5E/F-20 Tigershark to Pakistan was on the table. At the same time I heard that the Hughes Defender or the earlier version was also on the table but both the things never materialized.

These were rumors in the mid seventies and early eighties. You would know better.

Thanks.

Sir I have heard these rumors from credible sources as well, US Govt offered 120 A-7s to PAF, (may be if Pakistan rolls back its nuclear programme)...ACM Zulfiqar and his team rejected the option....Where as the selection of F-16 over F-20 can be seen in detail in ACM Anwar Shamim's book 'Cutting edge PAF '

The Hawker Siddeley Trident-1E was a British short medium-range three-engine airliner designed by de Havilland and built by Hawker Siddeley Aviation in the 1960s and 1970s.PAF acquired 1 VIP version of Trident -1E for a short period in 1967. PAF acquired 4 of the type at that time. The PAF Trident-1E was phased out in 1968.
