PAF and The Case for Eurofighter Typhoon

Can you offer proof to the contrary?

This isnt a situation where we have a disorganized Russain AF with various 90's documentaries talking about RuAF pilots got no flight hours. Can you PROVE your doubts? Even offer a basis for their existence other than ________????

Nope,I can't ,that's why there just that: personal doubts.

I am nobody to judge here but can anybody tell me why Pak always interested in second hand jets ????

If you don't have enough money why NOT go to China and buy brand new J series with soft loans ???? It will be cost effective and will be open for future upgrades. Second hand Typhoons/F-16 or Su doesn't make any sense

think PAF should obtain the Typhoon for the following reasons.

1)it is a European platform which allows access to high technology other than American sources. The political aspect is just as important as the military in that it shows the US Pakistan has other options.

2) militarily it allows PAF access to ej200 and other modern western capabilities such as the meteor missile. Even in small numbers it establishes some sort of parity with Indian rafales and other future platforms.

3) hopefully PAF joins Turkish TFX program and given BAE is reported to be involved in that, I am sure aspects of the eurofighter will be used in TFX. This allows PAF to gain familiarly with the technology in some capacity.

4) given recent reports of Qatar, turkey, and Pakistan military cooperation, I hope Pakistan can use Qatar financial assistance in some capacity. Bottom line, muslim countries must work together to ensure that they are not being either controlled or oppressed by western countries. That means working together despite differences to synergies capabilities. For example I hope Pakistan can use Qatar money to obtain modern capable systems. The value is that these systems can inshAllah be utilized to their full potential by capable personel. The sooner muslim countries realize this, the better off they will be.

5) IN a similar manner PAF obtaining typhoon would allow commonality with Saudi Air Force with its typhoons. Theoretically allowing the two countries mutual support. For example PAF would have familiarity with Typhoon in the even Saudi Arabia needed Pakistani assistance. Similarly Pakistan would have access to Saudi aircraft if the need arose. Of course the two examples would be in the most extreme circumstances however it is still valid.

6) Pakistan needs to take advantage of this opportunity to obtain used trance 1 Italian and perhaps Spanish or U.K. Examples now because the opportunity may pass. Take advtange while you can.

7) obtaining typhoon would allow Pakistan a 4.5 generation platform which would allow PAF to take its time with procuring a 5th generation aircraft. Also this 5th generation platform is a relative unknown in terms of capability whether it is Chinese or Turkish. I.e. It will not be a proven American aircraft. Obtaining typhoon mitigates this.

8) ultimately PAF know the capabilities adding typhoon to its inventory will have and I have confidence it will do the right thing. Whether or not it is worth the time and expense. However I hope it deliberates on the points presented above. Thoughts bilal khan quwa, windjammer, oscar, bilal777?

Very well written, gives you the perspective in a cathy way good keep it up

Oh God Irfan Bhai can you plz read the thread pages from start many guys asked me same question. ACTUALLY IN HURRY I MADE THE THREAD AND THE NEWS ON GEO WAS.

you know why?
because we have to keep some spare money for your abandoned hostages which your state and your elitists fail and refuse to help.

so tell your Modi to spare some money next time for Indian hostages instead of buying jets.
. your pathetic Indian state refused to pay ransom money to Somali pirates and we Pakistanis paid for your guys too and our Navy brought them back safely.

so my dear whenever you and your kind of Indians make shiity money jibes .. then watch this video.. this is just one example.. your warmongers are hallow.. portraying us as evil but reality is opposite.

Nope,I can't ,that's why there just that: personal doubts.
Which simply cant even find any proofs for as even in trying to prove your doubts we have no metrics as such to support them.

PAF for more than five decades has been successfully operating various fighters, and their variants from three major destinations namely the Chinese, the Americans and the Europeans(French) . This tri nation combination has borne PAF major dividends in terms of costs, availability and reliability regarding the platforms. PAF in my opinion will always seek new/refurbished fighters from three sources without tilting the balance to other two.
On this forum we Pakistanis have debated to death ,the various options PAF can exercise for its future needs and replacements. It is widely accepted that the Block3 and further, will be the best options available for the future upgrades for the Thunders. New Blocks of F16s are also considered along with the further upgrades of the remaining fleet. The Mirage fleet of PAF cannot be upgraded further because of their aging airframes. Further French supplies of hardware are not available owing to massive Indian pressure. This leaves us a question what other European source can be visited, some say the Russians(similar to Chinese tech). Since we have friendly ties with other European Nations why not revisit the Eurofighter Typhoons!!!

Indeed they are very expensive machines, but lately many European nations have considered selling them because of varying reasons, like the Italians and the Austrians.

PAF pilots have had a taste of Typhoons on numerous occasions, with ACM Tanvir Mahmood also flying it. Some say the Saudi and the Qatari airforces do have some PAF inputs on their Typhoon operations and acquisitions!!!!

There has been a valid concern on their affordability factor. Nevertheless there is no harm in seeking the second hand options to begin with. These beauties in the hands of the PAF professionals will seek havoc on the minds of our arch enemy. We will continue to maintain our psychological edge over them for decades to come.:pakistan::pakistan::pakistan::pakistan:

How about we make something ourselves this time. We can do it even if it involves modifying f16 or jf17 design. Just make something of our own. Take parts engine radar avionics from third parties but make our own desgin.

Where's the money to buy them?

It's better to develop a twin engine medium/heavy jet using the same systems/infrastructure used for jf17.
China has j16, we could collaborate with them.

Chicken or EGG.
These Machines are Expensive to operate even for the forces which have far more funds than PAF.
When ever you go for Western Weapons, Political theatre will always have some role.
When you buy weapons from multiple sources you will always have the same issue what currently IAF is Facing hence Pakistan approach has been to Get new thunders and upgrade them and buy used F16s and Upgrade them.
With this Pakistan get few benefits one you already have the infrastructure, your pilot's engineers know the platforms and their limitations which is not the cause here, Yes Flying a plane is something but exploiting its weaknesses to get better understaning of its power is something else.
Unless STATE provides Extra funds for acquisition of a new platform, these funds will be taken from Thunder which will delay the upgrade which will cause more than adding few new birds which you are pilots are not fully familiar with.

Thunder being plug and play makes it far more easier to upgrade and provides far more bang for the buck to PAF than Rafale or Typhoon can provide to in little numbers.

China is continuously upgrading its platform and Pakistan is getting its benefits at very low cost as since Typhoon is a joint platform as well it will make complications when trying to acquire all of its weapon systems which is not the case for thunder.
I would suggest keep current approach add atleast 200 thunders into Pakistani fleet and instead of buying different platforms, build thunder with different roles , with Chinese , western and turkish sensors and systems. That will Truly enhance the performance of thunder specially with a better engine.
Pakistan can have mix High - Low Jets in same squads which will improve the performance as overall , increase chance of sales as country can source systems which are suitable for them as it will be easier to operate, maintain and get spares in war time

They’re expensive but I think it would be a solution to anything India or many other nations can throw at Pakistan for a few years. Might find a way to cut a deal

Pakistan is potentially working on a 5th Gen design so it might even be worth exploring how to match those specs with the Eurofighter if the project is expected to mature fast
