Indeed its a positive development as previously then Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force had his maiden visit to Russia in August 2012, for participation in the International Military Conference.

Why? What we can benefit from old M2Ks? We are already having similar or better performance F-16s MLUed. France is not reliable partner and it will be difficult to get parts or upgrade them.

Recent Indian upgrades and stationed in Kashmir. Indian Mirage will stay in force another decade or so.

We cannot expect any deal because deal is done by the ministry of defence.. we like it or not but Khawaja Asif will be sining formal deal. Air cheif does not have this authority. but yes we can expect a strong interest by air cheif and wait for their response..

Windy clearly said this is a rumour. Lets not get too excited. The Russian angle however is intriguing although still a long way to go. I suspect we are still testing the waters while covering our bases.

So,

Most probable scenario will be at MOST RD93 maintenance facility in Pakistan; OR an understanding with Russia to allow the re-export or a back to back supply contract when JF-17 is exported to 3rd parties.

Anything beyond the above 2, is highly improbable.

and that Khawaha Asif once said in media that Pakistan will purchase modern fighter jets from Russia.

it will be better to go for Mig-29s later used models upgraded to Mig-35 standard with Su-35s, JFT and Migs can share many things in terms of avionics and engine making maintenance easier
