Shahbaz Sharif, the chief minister of the Pakistani province of Punjab, vowed Sunday to make Kashmir "part of Pakistan."
"Seeing the barbarism and brutalities Modi is enforcing in Jammu Kashmir, our blood boils...we will make Kashmir part of Pakistan," Sharif, the brother of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, said.
Sharif's remarks come a day after Pakistan raised the Kashmir issue with the UN Security Council President.
Pakistan's envoy to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi, said the "grave situation" in Kashmir and "escalation on the LoC pose a serious threat to international peace and security."
And former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi recently said the situation in 'Indian Occupied Kashmir' was "appalling and worrisome."
In response, lyricist Javed Akhtar tweeted: "Dear Mr Afridi, since you want to see a peaceful Jammu and Kashmir sans any human rights violations could you please see to it that Pakistani terrorists stop infiltrations and Pakistan Army stops supporting the separatists by closing down the training camps? It will greatly help in solving the problem."
Last week, at least 12 terrorists were killed in simultaneous joint operations by the Indian Army, the CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir police.
