The ideology was there before and now is on its proliferation in regions beyond Afghanistan... and blaming other is not an effective solution for it.

It does not matter whether he is dead or alive. He is the Sheikh to all his followers, and the followers' belief in their Sheikh is what matters. The best way to counter such motivation in such die-hard followers is to eliminate the leadership, or at least, discredit the leader. It doesn't matter whether Osama is dead or alive, what matters is what his followers think - that he is alive, and commanding.

Osama's power lies in his name, and the information about his failing kidneys or getting killed in rocket strikes, was made up to deter his followers. So, until there is a concrete proof of his death, or his getting caught, his name will still give the same strength to his followers now, that it did a decade ago...

...though I very much think he is alive, and that in itself is his strength.

I am not sure if these women can be called wives. There's another word that also starts with 'w' that is more appropriate for these women.
