I can say Pakistan should change its parliamentary system and become Presidential so democracy can still be implemented while having stronger government. Indonesia also changes its parliamentary system during our reformation period (1998-2004) after our first democratic government under parliamentary system fall during Abdurahman Wahid administration (1999-2002). Understanding the need to have strong government under democratic system, we change the parliamentary system and this move also enable us to have direct Presidential election starting in 2004.
Parliamentary system will create weak government just like how British has to make so many elections during the past 2 years alone. Other example of political situation in Israel which face so many political death lock and create many elections within 1-2 years period. Malaysia also faces similar problem now after their UMNO party elites break out from the party and set up another parties.
Authoritarian has its negative side and it can be very very bad. You must know how damage China is during Cultural Revolution. Despite good economic growth for the past 30 years, after China politics is getting more sane and get rid communism and its cultural revolution policy, there will be no way challenging CCP if you dont want to be in prison.
They will also try to implement social credit system across the country with Beijing as a pilot project. There is no press and personal freedom as well.
There are also many authoritarian ruler become crazy like Saddam Hussein, Kim family in North Korea who destroy their own country by reckless policy, and many others in Middle East who killed many of their people like happening in Egypt and Algeria.
And this is our economy after embracing democracy in 1998. Although our currency lose its value from 2000 Rupiah per USD (before 2017) into 10.000 Rupiah-13.000 Rupiah per USD, due to Asian Financial Crisis that hit my country so badly, you can still see huge increase on our nominal GDP after we embrace democracy.
