Opinion: Pakistan must become an authoritarian state to progress

. .
I posted this in the Musharraf thread but I'm gonna post it here too

Pakistan needs to be ruled by the military and it has always been better this way. Military knows how to run this country with an iron fist and that is when Pakistan as a nation will progress.

Democracy only works in countries where your population is intelligent enough to make sensible decisions. If your awaam is foolish and easily manipulated, democracy is a like a bomb waiting to go off. Putting decisions in the hands of your foolish awaam will ruin your nation and criminals will loot a weak democracy and corrupt it to the core. Politicians are so busy trying to gain power for themselves that they will make up fake scandals to create opposition. These criminal politicians will do everything they can to prevent, block, and slow down the gov't from implementing obvious and basic reforms that will help the nation. Democracy in Pakistan is a curse that will hold this nation back from achieving its full potential. China would never have become China if it was a democracy.

Military should take full power of every aspect of the state of Pakistan and root out all these corrupt criminals and mafia with an iron fist.

Shoot everyone in the bhutto, sharif and zardari family.

Every transaction greater than 500Rs requires CNIC, or NTN. Every business need to register and get a proper license.

Karachi under federal rule. Hyderabad new capital of Sindh.

Hazara province.

South Punjab province. Create a new city adjacent to Multan that will act as the capital.

Spend 5% of GDP on health. Spend 5% of GDP on education.

New Pakistan requires a new constitution.

Pakistan is now a one party authoritarian state, with the government having total control.

Proceed to liquidate the old order, wipe out the political elite and acquire all their lands and buisnesses.

Televised hangings and amputations of criminals who laundered billions of rupees from the international exchequer on PTV and all the world to see.

Privatize steel mill

MRAP for soldiers on Durand line

Media ethics will be strictly enforced any journalist who is a repeat offender will get his license revoked and will do 5 years in prison

Tough action against international NGO's stepping outside their mandate

High taxes on property above a certain value

Decrease redtape for setting up business

A purge in judiciary against Iftikhar elements

Abolish feudalism

Capital Punishment for corrupt politicians and high level officials

Increase our lobbying in the Gulf, America and the EU
The problem is, the people who are in power, either bureaucrats or politicians, they have nothing to do with this soil. They hunt here for whole of their lives, and then pass their retirement days on Islands near Australia.
If someone wants to bring something good for Pakistan then, bring Pakistan a middle class leadership.

Completely disagree with OP. God save us from another group of traitor generals, they've done enough damage to this country already. Each and every one who are still living ought to be tried and punished for the damage they've caused and oaths they've broken.

This a great racket that generals have ran over the country, continually mess up the republic by imposing dictatorship, stomp over institutions and constitution alike, and then when they leave they start pulling the legs of civilians who are already incompetent due to a lack of development and maturity in the civilian departments and institutions. Then folks get frustrated by the lack of development and blame democratic rule, preferring an equally incompetent despot.

On Musharraf:

His rule seems rosy because of the US aid propping up a large section of the budget, CSF freeing up government spending, lifting of sanctions and freeing up firms and financial institutions to do business in Paksitan. And Musharraf era was a worldwide economic boom that he had nothing to do with.

But the energy crisis reached its zenith because of him, by the time he left in 2008, we were up to our necks in under-capacity that he did nothing about. By the time he left, the 2007-8 financial crisis began to hit Pakistan, had he have stayed another two years, the awful early years of PPP would have been entirely his to own, he got lucky. By then, Taliban were present in vast swathes of KPK and we had a terrible security situation with regular suicide bombings. He also left the next government a financial crisis, much like the current, where the new government had to seek an IMF bailout and implement corrective measures that caused inflation and increased burdens on the economy.

To top it all off, Musharraf was personally responsible for the Kargil disaster. His actions led to the needless deaths of our NLI, almost the whole matter was a source of shame for us. He damaged the reputation of Pakistan internationally, he squandered both a good chance at talks with India over Kashmir and a good tactical plan that could have otherwise been employed for better effect in the right conditions. He was an idiot, and he should have been court-martialed, instead, to save his skin, this traitor removed an elected government, dissolved assembly, suspended the constitution, jailed judges and politicians alike, and made the former swear oaths him instead of an oath to the constitution as even he had sworn as a member of the armed forces.

I hope we never see such scum as Musharraf in power again.

Democracy has been running uninterrupted in many countries where the 98% of the population could not read or write. They could not even write their name or add 86 to 193.
They would not know what multiplication was or there are countries beyond their own. they ascribed all illnesses to acts of god and every other event as an act of god or the devil
Democracy has nothing to do with a level of education nor your bank balance.
It is a fundamental human right and an act of legitimacy, that has to be observed, by those that choose to rule over us

In a democratic Pakistan, a once in a blue moon person like Imran Khan is the best case scenario. Someone who wants good for the country. But he cannot deliver it. A civilian government will not allow it. Opposition blocks anything that will improve the country because it makes opposition look bad. Understand what I am saying. You can write it down. Centralized power is a necessity for Pakistan. Civilian government has been given every single opportunity to succeed and parliament is struggling to make basic reforms. If a civilian government in the best case scenario cannot succeed, then this country is in big trouble.

Tell me. Do you think that this civilian government can pass even a single one of those reforms? Military gov't has demonstrated its track record to implement reforms and that is why Pakistan has what it has so far. If civilian government can pass even one of those reforms, I will change my name.

Yes or no.
If he has 2/3 power he can do anything. He is still running despite no majority. And I salute him to passing bills and confronting all the media and stuff and correcting things and fighting mafia at the same time.

I used to think like you as well but there are so many cons with such government. Imagine your whole family getting killed for uttering a single word against the government, thats basically China. I dont want such government ever in my country. If the leaders are right and just, the country flourishes massively under such rule but leaders like that are rare.

The reason Pakistan doesn't have any leaders and its democracy is weak is because of Army interfering in politics. India was weaker than Pakistan at first, still their military didn't interfere. What then happened? Their people and politicians learnt from their mistakes and democracy matured. Now more and more new leaders are pouring in, their government is strong than ever. Whatever atrocities are going on in Kashmir and Muslims, the whole world turns are a blind eye.

In Pakistan, both democracy and military were at war with each other with both of them trying to gain supermacy. Whenever a incompetent leader came, Army came in and put over military rule. That sounds nice right? Yes it actually was... it did solve problems short term wise and we actually became more powerful than India. But long term we didn't have new leaders and new blood coming into politics. We even still have now to old corrupt folks in the government. Army hasn't let democracy mature in Pakistan and now we are facing the consequences.

Sorry but I disagree. Our army defacto rules our country. Civilian faces have hardly any say in most matters. Best way to progress is to invest in our people and to build civilian institutions.

. . .
So how is democracy working for Pakistan? Karachi is like a filth. Economy almost default on debts and all thanks to generous loan from friendly nation,Pakistan survive.

Democracy is not working, that's the point. Literally anything else would have been better.

Pakistan was made to become an Islamic state, but had British Laws, USA adopted us and provided security against India. Now USA has abandoned us, and China has adopted us. We are very confused nation. So, we try to become an Islamic State (Zia regime), USA type democracy (Ayub, Mushuruf regime), British type democracy (PPP and PMLN). Now we are learning from China and converting to Chinese style. (Islamic System, USA system, British System, Chinese System) confusion....

Do you want freedom or national progress? Because you cannot have both. Pick one.

Authoritarianism is never beneficial in the long run, no matter what the issues are. A robust democratic system with checks and balances and strong independent institutions are what you need.
