There are two outcomes to this "shove islam out the door" policy.. either it will be successful like it was in turkey, or Shiekh Hasina will soon find herself gunned down at a parade ala Anwar sadat by some over zealous Muslim... joining her father and meeting the standard for dynasties in the subcontinent..along with the Bhuttos and Nehrus.
Religion has its value and place.
An overdose of any religion has its disadvantages as is being observed.
The good intentions are hijacked by the radicals and then it is the curtains!
And this bloody Sheikh Hasina is killing that dream now. The more you fight this extremists, the stronger they get. If awami league haven't fucked up this bad, we wouldn't have to worry about Jamaatis winning the recent polls. Jamaat should be like BNP's coalition, winning a few seats, but I have a feeling, if there is an election now, they would win more seats then they ever did before.
So, finally we share some common grounds. I do agree with you, but if anyone is to be blamed for the rise of islamic fanaticism, it would be Sheikh Hasina. Conceptually, I do agree with secularism, I strongly believe Bangladesh is a country where all religions should be able to live peacefully. And this bloody Sheikh Hasina is killing that dream now. Total BS. Look at Pakistan and Afhganistan where the state policy were to apease the radicals and the end result is that the whole country became the hostage at the hand of radicals. BD is doing the right thing. The message should be clear and simple. We are secular.
Really? Since America has started its war on terror, terrorists have increased at least in 7 folds.Terrorists have increased when they were attacked or at least have become more radicalised. Jamaat has and always will be a part of Bangladeshi politics but I think it is the job of the current govt to make sure they don't turn into radicalism and they don't gain as much as seat in the Parliament. The way Sheikh Hasina is doing things, even secular muslims or moderate muslims now think she's under the payroll of the Indians and people are feeling like she is the "enemy" of islam, what her motive is irrelevant.
Offcourse, you can try banning them but look at Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. They still continued to grow and now the west is scared that they might come in power. Either you agree or disagree with me is upto you, but it is a hard written fact that Jamaat is winning many elections recently, and at certain parts they gained more popularity than the awami league.
