As voters headed to the polls for an election that could end the reign of Benjamin Netanyahu’s rightist Likud party, the Israeli prime minister warned supporters that the country’s Arab citizens were voting “in droves,” imploring right-wing Israelis to help “close the gap.”

Speaking in Hebrew in a video posted to his Facebook page, Netanyahu said, ”The right-wing government is in danger. Arab voters are coming out in droves to the polls. Left-wing organizations are bussing them out.”

“We have no V15, we have Order 8 [code for emergency call up to IDF reserve duty], we have only you. Get out to vote, bring your friends and family, vote Likud in order to close the gap between us and 'Labor,'" he continued, in remarks translated by Haaretz.

Netanyahu's comments come amid reports of increased voter turnout among the Israeli Arab population. Previous elections have witnessed declining voter participation by Israeli Arabs, who account for about 1.7 million of Israel's estimated 8 million people. Confronted with a new law that requires parties to win at least 3.25 percent of the national vote to claim a seat in Parliament, a diverse array of Arab parties -- ranging from the secular left to conservative Islamists -- combined to form the Joint List alliance this year. The New York Times noted on Monday that the alliance is on track to win 13 of the Parliament's 120 seats.

Israel have large Population of Culturally Middle eastern Mizrahi Jews as well. I dont know who they are tilted to in Israel but Arabs should started to strengthening cultural connection with them to achieve their Position in Israeli Politics. This could make things better for them in Israel and may lead to change in Policy towards Palestine as well.

At least on one Israeli Arab, Netanyahu's racism had the opposite effect:

RAMLE, Israel — Nour Aslan was on the fence about voting, but then she got an automated text message warning her that if she didn’t vote “the Arabs were coming.” So Aslan, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, not only got herself to her local polling station, she made sure her two daughters and sister came as well.

“This is an outrage. It is embarrassing. Are we not citizens of Israel? Do we not deserve to vote?” said Aslan. She said she had never voted in an election before but was “shaking with anger” over the text message, which Netanyahu’s Likud Party sent to millions of Israelis Tuesday morning, to galvanize more voters.

“We are sick of being seen as the enemy. We are not the enemy. We are citizens of this country, and I want to see my members sit in the Knesset [parliament] and legislate for all of us – Arabs and Jews – to have better lives,” said Aslan, who along with many in this small town were getting ready to vote for the Joint Arab List, a newly formed alliance of the Arab parties headed by political newcomer Ayman Odeh.

You're as much of a citizen of a country as you contribute to the country's defense & prosperity.

Coalitions have been formed on shakier ground.

All countries have laws determining what it means to be a citizen, and not even in war-loving Israel, do they include "contributing the defense" as a criterium. Most people in the West (especially women and the disabled) do not serve in the army but they're still counted as citizens. I know that's hard to understand, Theocratic Muslim. As to contributing to the prosperity of a country - well, again, no country has included that as a criterium. Maybe because it would be so easy fulfill. You buy a bubble gum at the market and you're already contributing to your country's prosperity. If you want more of Israeli Arabs, ask their government to quit stealing their lands. It's hard to hugely contribute to your country's income when your means of subsistence keep getting taken away for Jewish settlement purposes.

You don't fool anyone. Everyone and their mother called Netanyahu a racist yesterday. You're a total retard.

Even the White House - bought by AIPAC - has complained of Netanyahu's racism.

In strikingly strong criticism, the White House called Mr. Netanyahu’s campaign rhetoric, in which he railed against Israeli Arabs because they went out to vote, an attempt to “marginalize Arab-Israeli citizens” and inconsistent with the values that bind Israel and the United States. The White House press secretary, Josh Earnest, told reporters traveling with Mr. Obama on Air Force One on Wednesday that Mr. Netanyahu’s statement was “deeply concerning and it is divisive and I can tell you that these are views the administration intends to communicate directly to the Israelis.”
