On transit, Dhaka set to go by GATT

No we are not obliged to WTO rule in this particular case otherwise BD would had given transit the day WTO came into being. WTO never sent us a notice neither India complained to WTO as there is no case.

You are giving transit because we are giving you duty free access to your goods including your jute. Apart from this you guys will also get transit route to Bhutan and Nepal.

Sometimes you have to give something to gain something bigger. Its diplomacy. A step forward to strengthen ties with India. Such measures will attract indian companies resulting in job development etc. in future.

Providing a transit through our own land is not just a diplomatic gesture. It has a lot of economic and security implication.

Nope, duty free acess is no way related to transit. Duty free access is given under SAFTA in return we are giving you duty free acess to you. We have certain timeline by that all the items would be duty free in phases.

I am always an advocate of Indian-Myanmar venture. BD can never offer you any cheaper than Myanmar. You should go for it and should be your priority. BD route will be way more expensive even if we go by GATT than Myanmar.

Aren't you supporter of increased India-Bangladesh trade, look at India and China we folks don't even hesitate even to trade with our arch-rivals and BD is certainly not our Arch-rival.

If bangladeshi companies indulge in Joint Ventures with indian powerhouses then i think it will boost your local businesses. Also your government can restrict certain fields where FDI is not allowed.

Last year we imported 1 billion dollar worth of goods from India with zeor duty. Up to 5% duty another billion.

yes our BAL government wont do that, they'll not put any regulation where bangladesh will become a failed state.

In a fair competition you can always come and invest. Just dont ask for any extra concession which is already offered to local and foreign companies. Most of our sectors are open to anybody.

And that helped your countryment not the Indian as Bangladeshis pays less because of no duty. Duty or no duty Indian will get the same price and we don't have any competition for our export to BD that we needed to be worried about duty.

Yeah I have been hearing the same sh!t for last couple of years, the fact is BD-China trade deficit is increasing day by day and China use BD to dump their cheap goods.

Your India hatred surpasses everything and you will put blind eyes over china is doing. Your trade with China also is much larger and soon it will surpass India because every India haters in Bangladesh putting blind eyes to it.

We are taking on whole cost of Akhura-Agartala rail link, still opportunistic people making noise in your country. Plus even if you are not taking transit fee even without that you guys will make lots money in services because charging service is never free. GATT or WTO treaty is not mandatory but it depends upto BD business mind how to do best negotiations economically instead of making cheap political issue of puppet state or 29th state of India.
