Well, you guys are getting duty free access for many goods which Indians rarely provide to any country. And we need your transit route but urgency is not to the extent you guys are assuming. And it is always good to have extra option. Sittwe-Kaladan Project and Road network would be completed by next year. Right now a rail line extension to Aizawl going on and it may extend to the Sittwe Port in coming years.

So, no big deal for India but time to see how much political issue is being made out of it in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is the part of India's "look East" Economic policy, not the only country being looked for "look East Policy." main focus is Myanmar also and Myanmar don't make big political issues.

GATT or WTO rule does not apply for using Bangladesh as corridor as other end of the corridor is India itself not a third country. Awami stooges specially Mashiur Rahman harping on GATT rule because under GATT rule india need to pay virtually nothing.

It should and would be win win situation. Indian traders will like to pay least while BD will like to get most. The agreement will happen some what in between. So please stop being cynical.


Can any one educate me what this transit bout, how it will improve Indo-BD relation (I believe Indo-BD relation was low in past, now it will only improve... )
