What's new

Olive oil from Pakistan.

PTI have started pushing this massively.

We are now making and exporting olive oil.

Are you serious?
I mean, there's no Pakistani olive oil to be found in our local markets, so from where the hell they are exporting ---- or is it that this Pakistani olive oil is meant to be only for export?

I know there's olive tree plantation, but how come you guys making claims that we export olive oil.
It’s great to see Pakistanis stepping outside the cotton and textile obsession. Olives are nature’s wonders and highly lucrative business.

China is a huge market for olives, which is slated to grow even more in the next few years. Pakistan should target the Chinese and middle eastern markets heavily. Forget about EU and N.America and think of diversifying your exports.
O Bhai, first target local market --- there's no Pakistani olive oil to be found in local stores, how come you started dreaming to target so and so outside markets.
Sir here is the brand from Pakistan:

Can't wait to see Olive oil from Pak hitting the shelves in the UK, at the moment
I have to buy Spanish or Italian olive oil.
why are you buying italian oil? Those are bad quality; they are low grade and what they go is to go over to greece and Albania and re-package it as premium or even tunisia.
I never touch italian stuff - no good. They have been fined a few times for exporting fake labelled oil.

Spanish is very good; you should get to a pora store and get pora oil (pora - portugese).

Thanks for letting me know, the bottle I have at home is spanish olive oil.

Apparently we do export it. Check out these links;

At this stage, definitely the produce is not so much to compete the Spanish/Italian in the open market. I believe, it may available in some specific stores like Utility Stores (may be in super market type and not in small ones). Further did you scanned in Metro Stores?

I like the way this government is dealing and taking initiatives from someone looking at it from the outside it begs the question - what were the previous governments doing.

I acknowledge your comparison to Greece. However in my opinion Pakistan is more like Italy. In fact I tell my friends all the time that if you like Italy you will love Pakistan as well. The food the culture and the family oriented people. Dare I say even the driving standard is an exact copy of Italy.
The previous governments were buying properties in London and Dubai and New York

I don't get this logic --- a thing which ain't found in our stores is being exported+ the first priority is always local demand, whatever is left can be exported.

Janab! if the claim is we export, than there should be enough in local market -- we only export things which are in abundance,.like say our export of mangoes kinno etc., --- these produce are available in every street of Pakistan.

I haven't been to metro my whole life, but there are so many other stores, I never found any Pak brand.

The people running it are a business. Olive oil is not an essential like atta or rice. They're going to sell it in a way to maximise their profits.

Than good luck to them at maximizing their profits --- we will keep buying Spanish/Italian products --- but this kills the whole purpose of olive plantation drive, the purpose was to reduce import bill by introducing local brands for local market.

still a very strange and funny claim, I don't believe we export olive oil.

(Khair, our govt also exported essential wheat, thereby creating crisis,.lol)

.
I think we shouldn't make fool out of ourselves --- we have just begin and it could take decades -- Pakistan is aiming 16000 tons production by 2027, now compare this with current production of other countries -
Spain 6 million tons, greece/italy/Turkey around 2 million tons.

so let's take it easy and Pray our olive plantation drive is successful in the future.

Tunisian or moroccan is even better. if you can find.

We eat it raw with bread and in our daily food.

You are quite Sir, I have eaten freshly baked Turkish bread with virgin olive oil quite a few times and it is delicious.
