What's new

Olive oil from Pakistan.

UK has the worst climate the weather changes in minutes.
Yeh that is very true. Winter is really difficult. It's not so much the cold but the wet, damp, dreary day after day. Makes me think Norway, Sweden will be even worse. They can keep their high human devolupment indices.

yes the olives , oranges and grapes was in abundance.
Their water melons are awesome. More so eaten with goat cheese.

You are VERY late on this one ... PMLN gets credit for starting this project and PTI is taking it to next level adding far more areas.

Pakistani olive oil is top of the class in the world, from the batches produced and tested in labs. There is another thread on it.

Can you provide a link? Would love to read more.

I have been on the case of my local KP guys who are loaded and they are from Swat and surrounding areas to grow olive plantations. i tell them because they are loaded and can benefit the areas but sadly they are just laid back enjoying driving porsches. why dont you invest in olive cultivation?
Nothing wrong with Porsches. I drive one 😂😂

I am in UK and probably a bit daunting to launch such a project that would require time. But would not mind invest if I can find some local with drive and sense. I am actually off to PK late March on a business trip. I would have gone earlier but this covid thing got me worried but I got my jab last week so now feel confident. And the weather begins too get nice by late March in Pakistan.
I might try to do it in Chakwal area if I can. But definitely try.

well how does growing olives sound :toast_sign:

Actually the Italian government gets the credit! and I believe ISPR made a documentary on it too almost a decade ago with a plantation in Balochistan!
I hope they captialise there is a huge value added industries post harvesting waiting to be tapped.
indeed, apart from olives there is avocados too. I bought some Ugandan avocados and they were beast size avocado compared to smaller size south american avocados that I usually buy.

It’s great to see Pakistanis stepping outside the cotton and textile obsession. Olives are nature’s wonders and highly lucrative business.

China is a huge market for olives, which is slated to grow even more in the next few years. Pakistan should target the Chinese and middle eastern markets heavily. Forget about EU and N.America and think of diversifying your exports.
forget China. There are other major regions. Just take South America or even North America.

Even regionally it is viable; a lot of saudi oil import is actually pomace - that is a solvent extract 3rd grade and not good for human consumption.

Actually those have no taste; we have that variety here; a lot come over from Zims' too. Size but no taste.

Citrus oils are huge product which is just tapping to happen from Pak.

I came across this video and what surprised me was the potential for olive oil exports from Pakistan. Given huge areas of Balochistan and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkwa have the Mediteranean climate idea for olive orchards Pakistan could become a major olive exporter. This offers lucrative opportunity. Again for failure of successive governments this opportunity has been missed. I was in Crete, Greece last year and spent lots of time treking in the countryside in Crete with it's huge olive orchards and watching this video almost reminded me of the same. The similiarity of the environment to Crete is uncanny. I also found loads of figs and grape orchards which means these could also take root here.

The Pakistani olives look lovely.

This is really good, as part of my work we have recently commissioned a waste recycle plant that produces in excess of 10MW. I was wondering how such a plant could change a country like Pakistan. I have just come back from Pakistan and one of my pet hates is the amount of garbage people tend to throw on empty land.

Just imagine one of these power plants each in all the major cities where population is over 500k and you will be producing a lot more green energy whilst also getting rid of the garbage.

There are so many possibilities and this is the only government I have seen (in my 30 odd years being associated with Pakistan) that is truly working on initiatives to improve the industry. Yet deep down I know the likelihood of PTI gaining power in the next election is still not confirmed - considering the clowns in other parties.

Guys I live for day I go to my local supermarket - Tesco and I see olive oil, figs, oranges, pistachios, almonds with "Produce of Pakistan". Or cans of aubergines, red peppers etc with "Produce of Pakistan". What satisfaction I would get that my am supporting my fellow brothers, a poor farmer in Pakistan. The possibilities are endless. And let's keep the positive vibe going. We spend lot of our energy on bitching and complaining. Let's a take a break and instead think positive on this thread.

Absolutely. When I was in Pakistan last year I had lovely time in my village. awesome is the word for it. River Indus is within walking distance from us and we would go and have a open b-B-Q. But the thing annoyed me was the garbage people just throw away. This is simple civic responsibility that needs to be drilled in people. I remember growing up in UK getting bombarded with the "Keep Britain Great. Keep Britain Tidy". I am glad PM Imran Khan is making a effort but the people have to modify their behaviour. This is about poverty of mind and about money. Don't tip trash please.

In my village the road that goes through it has those drain lines running along it. Every week I saw the poor PWD workers picking the trash from them. That should not be needed or at least not as regularly as every week.

As a side note I went to Crtete, Greece straight after Pakistan and honestly the differance was not that siginicant. Within 20 years with proper government I could see my district overtaking Crete.

I like the way this government is dealing and taking initiatives from someone looking at it from the outside it begs the question - what were the previous governments doing.

I acknowledge your comparison to Greece. However in my opinion Pakistan is more like Italy. In fact I tell my friends all the time that if you like Italy you will love Pakistan as well. The food the culture and the family oriented people. Dare I say even the driving standard is an exact copy of Italy.

Good!... welcome to the olive oil production.

I hope there is complete firmness in terms of trade labelling and no-relabelling. Let those who grow get the maximum benefit.

Remember - oil extraction; then the residue left over you still can get pomace which can be used for soap, massage oil and other uses NOT for eating.
Sir here is the brand from Pakistan:
