So I guess having a 2000-ship navy equates to being powerful, without any regards to the expenses needed to maintain each ships and keeping them afloat?

And why need hundreds of ships if one has enough firepower to lay waste on a metropolitan city.

The thing is ships these days are much bigger than WW2 era ships. Most of those WW2 destroyers were in the 2000 ton range. Now they are made in the 10,000 ton range.

And the weapons of a modern destroyer is more precise and more lethal than WW2 destroyers.

In fact, a future destroyer which will have railguns and laser weapons complementing cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles will be far more lethal.

But for some people here, having a navy with large number of ships equals to being powerful, even though such concept can drain a nation's wealth faster.

As @Nihonjin1051 said during a World War countries are going to go through a massive military buildup and after the War ends things will settle to a more realistic level. The US has maintained a much higher level than pre-war but not quite wartime levels.

lol, you do realize that 1945 era USN had to grow that large to combat the Imperial Navy, right?

After the end of the 2nd world war, and after the Imperial Navy's defeat, the USN no longer needed to be so large, hence many of their warships were scrapped later on. It was only to combat the IJN that the USN had to be that 'large'. Even against the Soviet Navy -- the USN was not that 'large'.

Actually Soviet navy is no worse than Japanese nazi navy.

well Jeremy was sacked for punching someone and is now making his own car show with amazon. yes the video does reflect a top gear styled show. p.s. did you se when he did the hill/mine climb in Australia. i usually dont watch tv but when ever top gear is on i make an exception.

Well, Jeremy is a bigot, and this is probably why we loved him so much...But well, he did went over the edge for this one, however, I would have thought BBC would simply suspend him, not giving him the boot....This would means a serious blow to BBC.
