Oct 11, 2021: Tesla officially starts its ‘wider release’ of Full Self-Driving Beta in the US

. .
Falcon 9 makes alot of claims but the reality is this: it is a decent medium lift launcher that can loft 9-15 tons (proven payload only) and can partially reuse a rather expensive first stage with 9x engines (if we believe that the cost per expendable launch is mostly in wasting the engines).

However, to reuse the first stage, you need to save fuel for the retroburn maneuver, which reduces real payload. In addition you need more money to develop the reuse mechanism, the logistics train of hauling reused parts back to base, tooling to get good turnaround time on reusables, inspection capabilities and the ability to remove and replace components that are expendable. ULA's CEO Tory Bruno already said that he estimate 10x reuses before economic feasibility. Until we get some solid numbers, the reality is that SpaceX is charging something like $316 million per launch to US customers and claiming 'infrastructure' and 'payload fairings' as the cost when apparently, no other company needs that much for infrastructure and the payload fairing is a relatively cheap part of the rocket.

Back to Tesla: remember solar roofs? How about Tesla Semi which was supposed to use FSD software to revolutionize trucking? Maybe Cybertruck? heh. I wouldn't put a deposit down for this.

With all the PR you're doing you should ask Tesla for a contracting role.

I have to post threads like this because Chinese members here have incredibly short memory spans and repeatedly INSIST on saying things like Amazon Go must use RFID technology (it's computer vision) or Tesla solar shingles don't exist (there are dozens of install videos posted) or there is no driverless taxis on US streets (Waymo has been around for years and the videos show no drivers) or Starlink can't possibly work (plenty of video showing download speeds) or the US uses RD180 engines for all their satellite launches (no SpaceX has their own engines) or Tesla has never had a profitable quarter (their last like 7+ have been profitable)..etc.

I have to point them to a thread with dozens of videos to prove they are wrong because they stubbornly insist to the very very end that they are correct.

Then you'll get paid for it.
I mean, I would if I could but I can't so I don't.

With all your bad mouthing in this forum you should up your rate from .50 to $1.

Astronauts already have to wear those you moron. What if you have to go while you are in the middle of launching or landing? You going to unbuckle and get up or something?

Besides at least we have toilets and don't have to use the Soyuz/Shenzou route of basically a tube leading to a bucket.

It's happening folks...

Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta
Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Beta (FSD) enables Tesla vehicles to virtually drive themselves both on highways and city streets by simply entering a location in the navigation system, but it is still considered a level 2 driver assist system since it requires driver supervision at all times. The driver remains responsible for the vehicle, and needs to keep their hands on the steering wheel, ready to take control.

It’s what Elon Musk has been referring to as “full self-driving feature complete” for the last few years.

Over the years, Tesla has been releasing some features like Autopilot for highway driving and Smart Summon for parking that are pieces of the autonomous driving solutions, but the FSD Beta ties them together into an end-to-end solution.

However, under its current form, the end-to-end solution is still not considered safe enough to be used without driver supervision, and therefore, it’s not truly self-driving.

Tesla hopes to improve it over time with software updates and eventually prove that it’s safe enough not to require driver attention.

Tesla FSD Beta wide release
In the meantime, Tesla has been testing the software through its early access program for the last 12 months.

The program consists of about 2,000 people – mostly employees and some owners chosen by Tesla.

Now Tesla is moving to a “wider release” of its Full Self-Driving Beta.

It’s something that was delayed several times over the last six months, and it has also changed its form.

It went from a simple “download button” that would have allowed people who bought the Full Self-Driving package to download the latest software to a “request button” that starts a period of judging your driving based on some parameters and adds you to a queue to maybe get the new software.

This “safety score” to judge your driving has been active for the last two weeks, and now Tesla is starting to push the FSD Beta to those with the best score.

It was supposed to come on Friday with Tesla’s v10.2 release of FSD Beta, but Musk confirmed that the automaker started pushing the update early this morning:

Musk didn’t confirm how many people that represents, but he previously said that it would be about 1,000 per day.

The update is coming in the 2021.32.25 software update.

Tesla is using the same release notes as the updates sent in the early access program:

The update should later propagate to Tesla owners who bought FSD and have a high driving score.

You can expect to see a lot of videos from people trying the FSD Beta features in the coming days.
