It is essentially a few hundred Congressmen/Senators who are too scared and/or too beholden to the Lobby's influence to stand up for America.
Yes, the same Congress whose approval rating is below 20%. The same one which is widely accused of corruption, incompetence, and greed.
Anyone following the more 'liberal' American blogspace like NY Times can see that Americans are anguished and embarrassed by the Obama administration's cowering before the Lobby. History will duly note these traitors who harmed America's long term interests.

This is not the case at all - the US is a real democracy - what is true is that there is widespread support for Israel among the US populace - it's not just a handful of congressmen or senators, just the Evangelicals are 80 million strong -- I once asked a very well educated responsible official why it was that the US was as pro-Israel as it is and his response was absolutely stunning, he said most people in the US support israel over others, because the israeli were "like" Americans, that they had more in common with Americans than the Palestinians or arabs did -- it's an incredible view for a supposedly educated person, on the other hand, it was just an honest explanation.

I posted this elsewhere but, just to summarize, the Israeli supporters can be broadly classified into four groups:

A- hardcore, fanatical Zionists who are beyond reason: Gawd mandated Israel and that's that.

B- reasonable people who don't know the facts and just want this conflict to go away one way or another.

C- racists and bigots who use Israel as an opportunity to bash Arabs and Muslims. Many of these people hate Jews also -- their stance is more about kicking Arabs/Muslims than supporting Jews.

D- people who know the facts but are pre-emptively silenced by the anti-Semitism charge. The Israelis have successfully framed their blatant land grab into a racial/religious conflict, playing up the Holocaust sympathy card.

The Jewish people have been immensely successful in and made very important contributions to Western culture. Many Americans confuse the contribution of American Jews with Israel.

I wonder if this person knew about Israel's 'Law of Return' which contradicts the very heart of American separation of church and state. Or the various laws upheld up Israeli courts which legalize race-based discrimination in housing and other matters.

Israel has crafted a very careful image -- largely portraying itself as an extension of Western Jews.

That is what I meant by saying they are justified in using all measures at their disposal to fight terrorists.

Will it not sound ridiculous when someone says Turkish Army must fight PKK only one-on-one and not by using F-16s or attack choppers. ?

In current times If I ask a jobless american if he/she supports isreal and that tax money be given to israel, he may as well curse isrealis a hundred time and the US administration a thousand times. I would not even discount Pakistan into lt, US stop all that Aid and spend it on currently economically depressed americans.

Have not seen the poll for 2011 yet. But I can Gaurantee you it is above 50% and most likely above 60%.
