What will we do of such sophisticated weaponry which will prove useless at the time of US sanctions?? i think we should keep US at arm's length & avoid weapon systems that can turn a disaster in case of US sanctions, India is playing it's cards right, just give US orders of transport planes, reconnaissance planes, radars etc. which are just "force multipliers" while buying the "force" from Russia & Europe which will never sanction India in any emergency.

nope, we can manage with 3 aircraft carriers, going for 4 will definitely alarm the countries in the Indian ocean region. our relation with Australia and Indonesia has improved,but they are not at strategic level, in 1980's both Indonesia and Australia had questioned the Indian navy's acquisition of warship from Russia.
btw,what you think of a Mistral class amphibious assault ship.

You are right. But looking at current political relations in the world it is highly unlikely that USA will go against Indian intrest.
1. In past it was due to Pak as USA need Pak as pivot now their need is over and Pak is more inclined to China
2. Main objective of US is to keep China at the level where they can't challenge US. So beefing up India has two advantages i. Business ii. Strategic objective
3. China and India are not going to friends in near future.
Even I think Obama will be more assertive on transferring advanced tech to India in his this term. USA understand that world will be no more single polar. And eh can't overlook rise of China and India. So they will preffer India with democracy than China.

Indian army must get its share in modernization Program, Indian army must buy atleast additional 300 M777 Howitzers along with excalibur munitions, India must order another 28 apache helicopters along with 3000-5000 AGM-114 Hellfire missiles.

Mate, Obama delayed the induction of India's first stealth frigate - INS Shivalik in 2009/10, due to engines provided by GE, even than US-India strategic relations were at an all time high, but this decision delayed the induction by about 5-6 months, so uncle sam can hardly be trusted, especially when all high-tech weapon systems has a lifetime of 30-40 years, at a time when relations changes in a matter of day or two, how can we trust US for 40 years.

Washington : India s ambassador Nirupama Rao has said the close India-US relationship would become "even deeper and more rewarding engagement" during President Barack Obama s second term.
Rao said, she believed that the leadership that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Obama "have imparted over the last four years, has moved India-US strategic partnership from a consolidation phase into one of comprehensive and multifaceted engagement."
"There is a rich and textured agenda ahead of us," she said in her blog post on Obama s re-election calling it "inspiring, and in some ways reminiscent of his historic win four years ago to become the 44th President of the United States."
The shared vision of Singh and Obama "will continue to guide our close relationship to an even deeper and more rewarding engagement, even as it derives strong support from across the political spectrum in both our countries," Rao said.
The ambassador said she was "constantly impressed by the fact that a silent revolution is taking place in the way India and the US engage with each other."
"The depth and expanse of their mutually rewarding partnership, and the stakes both countries have built in each other s success are unprecedented today," she said.
"Our strategic partnership today is rich in content, comfort and candour. It also has an ever-increasing global relevance, making a difference beyond our shores, from Afghanistan to Africa," Rao noted.
"There is increasing convergence in our foreign policy priorities," she said noting, "We have shared approaches to some of the most complex regional and global challenges of our times."

Boeing shakes up defense business, cuts management jobs | Reuters
(Reuters) - Boeing Co said on Wednesday it will restructure its defense, space and security business and cut 30 percent of management jobs from 2010 levels as part of a broad cost-cutting drive.
Boeing, the Pentagon's second-largest supplier, said it also will close some facilities in California and consolidate several business units in an effort to trim $1.6 billion in costs by the end of 2015, on top of $2.2 billion in reductions achieved since 2010.
"We are raising the bar higher because our market challenges and opportunities require it, and our customers' needs demand it," Dennis Muilenburg, chief executive of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, told employees in a memo obtained by Reuters and confirmed by Boeing.
He said the total savings of $4 billion would make the company healthier and better able to deal with an increasingly complex and challenging marketplace.
"Even with the uncertainty ahead of us, we are charting a positive course, and we are committed to excellence, execution and investment," Muilenburg said. "I like Boeing's competitive position and our approach - facing into it aggressively and with a sense of productive urgency - and not 'hunkering down.'"
The sweeping measures come as all U.S. weapons makers are under pressure to cut costs and preserve profit margins amid dwindling defense spending in the U.S.
Boeing shares pared early losses after news of the restructuring. Early in the day, the stock was down as much as $2.27, or 3.2 percent, at $69.31, partly on concern about dwindling defense spending following President Barack Obama's re-election.

Norms relating Indian defence technologies need reform: Powell
The US on Thursday stressed the need for review of norms regulating defence technologies in India.
"We each have very very complicated procedures that governs development of technologies, sharing of technologies, export and import of technlogies...trying to look at those...some of
our regulations have not been revised since 1950s and 1960s..they don't reflect current role of India..and American companies are very interested in this market."
"...We are hoping that both of us can look at trade piece of that...our side looks at export...India will continue to look at its acquisition process and see how it can be streamlined ..given complexities of these issues, it is not going to be overnight effort...I see it as part of the continuity with the second Obama administration," US ambassador Nancy Powell said at the World Economic Forum in Gurgaon.
Asked about deputy secretary of defence Ashton Carter's remark about the US involvement in developing India's indigenous defence technologies, she said US companies are very interested in it and suggested the need for revising certain regulations to make it possible.
Asked how she was looking at Indo-US relationship in the next six months, the ambassador said it is likely to be reviewed so that the cooperation can be further expanded.
"I think both of us have new leaderships and foreign ministries. I think there will be a review of our relations.. current dialogues, trade interactions and see what we can strengthen ....I think the bilateral investment treaty have provided a new model. India is also developing a new model. Discussions which have gone on for the last two years can make some progress," she said.
Asked about the US position on Pakistan sticking to the Kashmir issue, she evaded a direct reply and said the US was "encouraged" to see the new visa regime and initiative for better economic ties between the two neighbours.
