WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is endorsing the Palestinians' demand for their future state to be based on the borders that existed before the 1967 Middle East war, in a move that will likely infuriate Israel. Israel says the borders of a Palestinian state have to be determined through negotiations.
In a speech outlining U.S. policy in the Middle East and North Africa, Obama on Thursday sided with the Palestinians' opening position a day ahead of a visit to Washington by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu is vehemently opposed to referring to the 1967 borders.
Until Thursday, the U.S. position had been that the Palestinian goal of a state based on the 1967 borders, with agreed land swaps, should be reconciled with Israel's desire for a secure Jewish state through negotiations.

. .
Those borders are indefensible, Obama may not remember that his former promised no 67 borders in written obligations, but Israel does.
No Prime Minister will give up sovereignty over the Jordan Valley, which is essential for Israel`s security, no matter what the President says.

Obama’s meeting today with Netanyahu could be tense
By Perry Bacon Jr.

President Obama’s speech on the Middle East sets up a potentially tense meeting Friday with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

In his speech, Obama said for the first time that Israel’s boundaries before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war should be the basis for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. In response, Netanyahu said he would not agree to such an approach, calling the 1967 lines “indefensible” and noting that they would leave out Israeli settlements in the West Bank,

The two leaders already have a somewhat frosty relationship. Last year, administration officials did not allow photographers to take pictures of a meeting at the White House between Obama and Netanyahu, in apparent reaction to Israel announcing plans to build housing units in a disputed area of Jerusalem as Vice-President Biden was visiting the city.

Obama will also appear at CIA headquarters on Friday to thanks its workers for aiding the search for Osama bin Laden.

Problem is, even India and China are agreeing with Obama views here.

So not much Israel president could do, then fight the world or agree with us.

Btw does anyone know where Russia stands on border line?

Israeli official: Washington does not understand
By AMY TEIBEL

WASHINGTON — A senior Israeli official says President Barack Obama demonstrated in his latest Mideast policy speech that "Washington does not understand what we face."

The official says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was disappointed the speech did not address the Palestinian demand to repatriate to Israel millions of Palestinians, most descendants of people who were driven from or fled homes in the war over the Jewish state's 1948 creation.
Speaking Friday ahead of Netanyahu's White House meeting with Obama, the official said, "There is a sense that Washington does not understand the reality, that Washington does not understand what we face."
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment on U.S. policy.
Netanyahu arrived in Washington early Friday

The nightmare circus begins again.

US politicians looking for a 'legacy' force the Israelis and Palestinians into pointless 'dialog' which has zero chance of success. It toys with people's emotions on both sides by giving them a false ray of hope. The US politicians walk away with a feather in their cap at having facilitated dialog, but the situation on the ground only goes from bad to worse.

.
It doesn't really matter what India and China thinks about this matter. We have all seen it before. EIther they get what they want, or they will start killing civilians. In a sane world, Israel would be declared a terror country decades ago.

99% hasn`t been agreeing with us since the country was created, nothing new, especially Russia that sells weapons to our enemies every chance it gets.
Israel ultimately does what it feels it must, she cannot afford to indulge in the carelessness towards our security that the world seems to possess.

.
The fight won't be Israel versus world opinion but Obama versus the US Israel lobby. The US enables Israel to act with relative impunity. Whether it continues to do this or not will determine if Palestine get its own state.

CardSharp, US is by far our most important ally but this feeling isn`t just one sided, many in the US feel that we are their most important ally as well.
One way or another, the Congress is very Pro-Israel, Palestine will be vetoed and will not be allowed to join the UN. Same way China vetoed Taiwan`s acceptance to the UN.

well..since US has always been your daddy,we cant say 99%..of course,if youre talking about individuals, well, its normal..you shouldnt expect people to support israels lunacy.

the roadmap regarding the ME is clear..there will be democratic governments(they must be us-friendly) and your insane state will be gotten sober..the process is on the way.

Don`t hold your breath. You might choke. The Palestinians have said many times that Palestine is the current goal which means they`ll ask for even more if they get the chance.
