Obama says Myanmar needs to end discrimination of Rohingya to succeed

.
look when you get abusive it shows that you are not fit for a discussion and quite immature , in the report it has been stated that myanmar considers them as illegal bd citizens for which i gave similar examples as situations which are common across , is it so hard for you to understand.
Abusive? Pointing out the level of ignorance which is apparent is in no way abusive!

2ndly, yes, they dont consider them but I also highlighted that these people HAD CITIZENSHIP and a whole nation called ROHINGYA were stripped off it and denied anything to do with humanity from education to health care!

If you cant comment like a human being I suggest you leave instead of derailing...

Afghan refugees are not citizens they are refugees who dont even like Pakistan

Plus we kept these refugees (1 of the poorest nation Pakistan is home to the largest refugee in the world) and let UN help them...We didnt slaughter them nor do we slaughter the ones who got the citizenship coz they are OUR PEOPLE!

so comparing that is a brilliant showcase of your blind hate mentality!

The Rohingya: A history of persecution

rohinga-history.jpg

The UNHCR estimates that at the moment there could be as many as 500,000 unregistered Rohingya refugees inside Bangladesh. This number is in excess to the 25,000 that are registered refugees and are living in two of the camps provided by the UNHCR. What it means is that half a million people are living on Bangladeshi soil without any legal rights or provisions. They exist like ghosts in the wind because the government of Bangladesh does not recognise their presence.
The real problem, though, starts in Myanmar, where Thein Sein's military backed government fails to acknowledge their presence as well, often turning a blind eye to the massacre of Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine and the crimes against humanity being committed on Myanmar land. On March 29, the Myanmar government banned the word 'Rohingya' and insisted that the Muslim community register as 'Bengalis.' Critics will point to the fact that it is a political ploy to gain Buddhist votes before elections but it is just another move in a series of oppressive ones that can be seen to span across the best part of the last three centuries. Today, the Rohingyas are the most persecuted minority in the world, according to UNHCR reports. Their presence inside Myanmar continues to be widely contentious issue and, for the Myanmar government, mum's the word is the policy that has served them best for the past century.
The topic of debate centres on the belief that the Rohingyas are not people of Myanmar but an ethnicity that migrated into Myanmar from Chittagong. Proponents of this school of thought point to the fact that the Rohingya dialect and the Chittagonian dialect are very similar to each other. The truth is, though, that the Rohingya dialect of the people of Arakan developed sometime during the 8th century with the confluence of Arabic, Persian, Portuguese and Sanskrit. In fact, the ethnicity now referred to as Rohingya existed in Myanmar's land for longer than the last millennium. The free mixing of populations on both sides of the Naf river led to the similarities in dialects of the two regions. It was only in 1785 that the first instance of displacement of the Rohingyas occurred. Burmese king Bodapawpaya's conquest of Arakan led to the mass migration of the Mogh and the Rohingya to Chittagong. The Muslim population of Arakan was tortured indiscriminately and they had no choice but to flee. Fast forward to the three Anglo-Burmese wars stretching from 1824 to 1885 and we can see that the British occupation of Burma led to the reentry of Rohingyas into their homeland after decades in exile. Little were they to know of the nightmare that awaited them in the coming years.
With the rise of ultra nationalist movements throughout Burma, British India was finally separated from Myanmar in 1935, at a time when the Rohingyas fought to break away from the shackles of Imperialism. But this was the time when the communal flames of the Buddhist-Muslim dichotomy started spreading throughout Arakan, now renamed by the Mogh Buddhists as Rakhine. 1938 saw the first serious Buddhist-Muslim riots in Rakhine, and it was only about to get worse. Things came to a head in 1942, when Japanese occupation forces moved into Burma and colluded with Burmese ultra nationalists to massacre the many minorities of Myanmar, including the Rohingyas, who were now termed as Chittagonians, in-line with the anti-India sentiment that made the people of Myanmar averse to anything or anyone that came in contact with British India. The British, however, reoccupied Burma in 1945 and the Rohingyas were again allowed to settle back into Rakhine, albeit in acrimonious circumstances.
In 1948 came the independence of Burma and the implementation of parliamentary democracy. In Aung San's mandate, the Rohingyas were recognised as citizens of independent Myanmar. Even though Aung San was assassinated, his work towards peaceful coexistence was carried forward to some extent by U Nu, under whose rule Rohingyas were allowed to vote and enjoy basic rights. But it was to be the calm before a violent storm as General Ne Win came to power through a military coup and the systematic Rohingya genocide began in earnest from 1962. They were denied the right to vote and lost their status as citizens. That was when the exodus of Rohingyas to Bangladesh started. An estimated 207,172 refugees sought shelter in Bangladesh in 1978. Repatriation occurred in small bursts but another large wave of refugees came to Bangladeshi shores in 1992, this time almost 250,000 of them. The Bangladeshi government stopped registering Rohingya refugees in 1992 but the influx has not abated since then. Repatriation is a thorny topic as movement of the Rohingyas back into Rakhine puts them back into the scene of horrific persecution.
The situation hardly gives any reasons for us to be optimistic. Aung San Suu Kyi remains mysteriously mum on this topic while communal hatred spurs on in Rakhine. The Constitution of Myanmar states that any ethnic group that has lived within Burmese territory before 1823 are natives. It is strange, then, that Rohingyas are not included in this definition. In one of the most blatant instances of genocide in recent history, the government of Myanmar has decided to turn a blind eye to the fate of its people. And what of the hopeless community living in peril on both sides of an increasingly lawless border? They are often left with no choice but to turn to drug trafficking and militancy to gain their place back in their homeland.
The recent rise of militant organisations such as the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) should hardly be surprising. Reports published in The Myanmar Times say that infiltrators from Bangladesh (presumably RSO) shot and killed four police officers in Myanmar on May 17. It might just have been the tipping point that resulted in the shootout on May 28 that killed Mizanur Rahman. The situation now has become too glaring to ignore. The government of Myanmar can no longer sit and watch as hundreds burn everyday in Rakhine. It's time for them to accept the fact that the Rohingya belong in Myanmar as much as anyone else. It's time for them to step out of the tactic of using religious bigotry for political expediency.

Who the hell are you to tell someone that? BTW, mr. highly ignorant it is Burmese!

If you have no idea who is ruling Myanmar it is a military rule ....The same rule if applied to india you would be on the streets in mins ....Sad hypocrisy of the typical indian troll!

A Pandit will give you thousands of reasons why the land of Kashmir belongs to them and not to Muslims and nobody has any right whatsoever to deny their return back to the land. Their rationality is specific, can't be extended, they'll give you same numbers of reasons why Rohingyas don't belong to Burma. The term hypocrisy is too minuscule here, wish I knew a far better term.

Rohingyas are Muslims & this fact alone is ample to justify something unjustified so there's nothing to be surprised at.

The very fact that they speak with remarkable ignorance of the matter at hand is disgusting!
Even pointing out truth, their brainwashed brain rejects it is remarkable!

The vulnerability to forcible indoctrination varies from person to person, not everyone is vulnerable. More than brainwashing It is the predetermination based solely on hatred.

I am not very much religious neither I am a fan of Umma concept. But I got to an inhumane to justify this carnage.

Most of those boys are a bunch of 15-25 year olds with no real social life. The Burmese nationalists just say what they want to hear.

Little do they understand the extent of the damage done by denying the Rohingyas basic education. Education is not a luxury, it's a right.

But other than that, Burmese banks cannot conduct USD transactions that run through New York. That is one of the major impediments to their promising potential.

Reality is not so simple. And the Americans don't do anything for free. Period.

The dialect does not matter. The religion does. A Punjabi Muslim and a Punjabi Hindu have the same language even today. Yet they butchered each other with relish.

Previously, the Muslims killed better...at least immediately after the Partition.

In Myanmar, the non Muslims are doing it better now - that's all the difference there is.

Even then, I would still congratulate any Muslim nation that provides refuge to them. We did and some of them ended up bombing the Buddhist places of worship in Bihar and rioted in Mumbai. So I don't have much sympathy here. But if you extend your help and support, I will be happy to see that.

brave? Blind hatred is not bravery!

Kindly read history and state it as it is ...Its not Bollywood mirch masala when you talk about lives of people!

No one be they religious or not have behaved like this! But of course blind hatred and coupled with not being recognized some stories either never reach you or you shun a blind eye!

When British withdrew, the administration of Arakan division was entrusted to a Magh Buddhist extremist, U Kyaw Khine, with the power of commissioner of Arakan division. Many British soldiers left leaving behind a large number of arms, which easily reached the hand of Maghs.
The barbaric Muslim massacre started on 28th March 1942 at the order of Thakin leaders of Arakan. The Magh fell upon the innocent Muslims of Chanbilli village of Minbya Township. The carnage was unbelievable and hundreds of Muslims including children and women met their fatal end. Many Muslims jumped into the river and hid in the forest. People in water were shot dead. With their long swords the Maghs butchered the half-dead men, women and children. Those still alive in the carnage were stabbed with the pointed spears and cut them into pieces. Rohingya girls and women after having been raped were murdered and the children were mercilessly slaughtered by throwing them upward and putting the sharp side of the long-dahs or swords under them. The breasts of the women were peeled.
The same event of the tragic end of Shah Shuja and his followers in 1662 was just repeated once more in 1942. The Maghs of the neighbourhood carried away their cattle, rice, paddy and even clothes. The Thakin leaders took costly things like gold and silver and other booties were given to savage plunderers. The waters of the historic Lemro River had once more turned red with the blood of Muslims.
The next day on 29th March the armed Maghs attacked Lombaissor. The Rohingya resisted but were defeated and many Muslims were massacred. Like the daughter of Sultan Shuja many women in order to save their modesty threw themselves into the river. Some escaping group of 15000 Muslims were intercepted at Taungyi Nyo by the Maghs and were killed after looting their belongings. Women were killed after being raped for some days. Also, 10,000 men, women and children were killed at Apawkwa pass in the same way as Taungyi Nyo.
After destroying Chanbilli and Lambaissor in Minbya Township the Thakin attacked Raichaung and Pankha villages of Myebon Township on 1st April 1942. Almost all of 15,000 Muslims of these two villages were massacred.
Attempts were made to carry out massacre at Kyauknimaw of Ramree Township, but they were saved in a miraculous way. The Muslims of Kyaukpyu were given protection by British forces. On 8th April 1942 the Magh carried out the massacre at the villages of Kyauktaw, Mrohaung, Pauktaw and Rathidaung.
Abedin the richest man of Afouk (Apawkwa) used to say that “the Maghs are like dogs, if you throw bones at the dogs they are silent. Similarly if you give money to the Maghs they would not harm you.” But at the last moment his wealth could not save him. Although he narrowly escaped the massacre he had to breathe his last in refugee camps at Rangpur, needy and broken heart. It is one of the thousands of examples.
At the end of April the onslaught swept over the township of Rathidaung and Buthidaung. The villages up to Khwachoung in the township of Buthidaung were destroyed and burnt down. Taung Bazar, north of Buthidaung and its surrounding villages also came under Magh attack.
Three fourths of the Muslims of Rathidaung Township were massacred. The rest were lucky enough to reach Akyab. The Muslims of Akyab had the opportunity of acquiring some arms and training to defend themselves. Both offensive and defensive preparations of the Muslims in Akyab under the leadership of Sultan Mahmud, Tambi Maracan and others frightened the Maghs.
The result of the Muslim massacre of 1942 is that, 307 Muslim villages had disappeared from the soil of Arakan. More than 100,000 Muslims were massacred and 80,000 fled to Chittagong and Rangpur Refugee camps. The Muslim majority area of the east of Kaladan River had turned into a Muslim minority area. But the loss in terms of human civilisation and moral value is much greater. The 1942 massacre gave the scar mark of bitterness in the minds of the two-sister people against one another who, otherwise, peacefully co-existed in Arakan since 1200 years back.

If you know Indians hate Muslims for being Muslims why do you tag us and ask our opinions? It is a waste of time. I have enumerated my reasons before. We have burned our fingers trying to be humane with the Rohingyas. I don't want a single Rohingya on Indian soil anymore. If you want them, support them as much as you can.

Still many end up here.

The article didnt talk about the dialect alone .....The dialect is the excuse Myanmar gives for not rcognizing the Rohingya .....It was their land for centuries!

As for butchering, as usual you didnt read my post where it shows the Myanmar people butcher since 1800s.....The Rohingya were brought BACK to Myanmar by he British and given weapons to get back their land and also to keep them safe!

However, as per your logic it was very wrong for the indians to stand up against the British Raj! You should have shut up and accepted it!

The article was posted on rohingya.org. I rest my case there.

Secondly, it is a recorded fact that the Rohingyas shifted to the areas during the reign of the Bengal Sultanate and formed a tributary Islamic state. Unlike most places, the exiled non Muslim Rohingyas never forgave them.

They also petitioned Mr.Jinnah to be included in East Pakistan. He was not that interested. Plus the British were not ready to upset the Burmese. So they did what they do best - begin the Islamic insurgency. What you see today is the last stages of it. Insurgencies are like this - civilians, innocents etc all are (unfortunately) fair game.

I didnt....You came yourself as usual!

Whoelse sis supposed to educate you? Those doing the massacre who dont even recognize the word Rohingya?

The people dont have excess to drinking water and you think they are gonna sit down and blog about their past? Common sense isnt very common now is it?

Made up stories...The British armed them to get back their land as the British used them as labour....So again common sense isnt your strongest point is it? Blind hatred can make you no different than an animal.....

There is plenty of history. Read from the time of the Kingdom of Mrauk U.
Otherwise just know that we, (the entire non Muslim world) hate Muslims etc etc.

The best possible remedy is if Pakistan (and Bangladesh) declares war on Myanmar and carves out a land there for the Rohingyas. Or else give them refuge in their own countries.

You would have better luck convincing a rock than them. They would never agree that there are problems with muslims. There is not a single religion that islam doesn't have problem with...and That FACT speaks for itself.

I just hope there is little bit action in NE india as well by local people against bangladeshis.
