New Delhi, March 09: More than three months after the Mumbai terror attacks, the elite NSG is now procuring high-end gadgets, besides gun mountable night vision devices and SWAT assault rifles, to sharpen its heliborne commando operations.
The force is in the process of enhancing its armoury with the induction of 128 SIG (SWAT) assault rifles and night vision devices which will help its commandos execute anti-terrorist and anti-hijack operations in the dark, official sources said.
The SIG SWAT rifle, used by NATO forces, is a gas-operated weapon which is equipped with a highly tested and accurate sighting system.
"A pair of diopter and snapsight shooting assembly (microscope lens) is mounted on the receiver and calibrated for selected ranges making it easy to identify the enemy from a long distance," sources said.
The force will induct light firearms and special grenades to equip its heliborne commandos as during the Mumbai strikes the force lost one of its black cats, Havildar Gajender Singh, while he was coming down from a helicopter.
Sources said during the analysis of the Mumbai operation, it was decided to enhance the heliborne assaults of the force, especially in an urbanised condition.
