Not more Rafales, IAF may choose Gripens or F-16s

. .
India need more 200 fighter jets to replace Mig21s. Getting 200 Rafale will bankrupt India. For each Rafale India can get 3 F16 or 2 Gripen. It make sense as India needs 45 squadron to take on both Pakistan and China.

How ever I would not discount Rafale for Indian Navy. They are at forefront in the competition for Naval tender.

Navy goes to Super Hornet dude. Rafale is not adjustable while Boeing is open to make specific modifications for our carriers both current and future.

I just don't understand as to why did we buy Rafale in the first place.

Was it to just 'maintain' Dassault's presence in India after Mirage 2000s retire?

Instead, they should have scrapped the whole thing and got F/A-18SH for both IAF and IN.

.
Today IAF consists of
11-12 sqds of Su-30MKIs.
6 sqds of Mig-29s+ Mirage 2000s.
6 sqds of Jaguars.
6 sqds of Mig-21 bisons
3 sqds of Mig-27s.
Thats total 32-33 sqds. Of which we urgently need to retire 9 sqds of Mig21s/27s. Immediate replacement will come in form of
2-3 sqds of Su-30MKIs
2 sqds of Tejas mk1.
2 sqds of Rafale.
It means IAF will still have to fly 2-3 sqds of obsolete Mig-21/27s till further replacements come in form of Tejas mk1A+ F-16/Gripen to maintain current sqd strength. While sqd numbers will not increase till 2022-23.

.
Yes, pity for guys maintaining those planes.

If they want more rafales, I understand. Rafale is more powerful with higher speed, long range and more payload. And Rafale is a great plane for navy too.

But Gripens? or F-16? That only means Indians have no faith on LCA.
and anyone even think about logistics?

Dreams of 126..............

So they would buy 70's obsolete technology?
So the IAF will induct the Rafales in 2023...some six years from now....by that time JF-17 Block-3 will be rolling off the production lines....and despite earlier claims by the fanboys as F-16 being rejected and being old, it's again on the Indian's wishlist....a platform which the PAF has expertised for over 35 years. :)

.
Poor Indians. Don't have money for world's best fighter plane, so going to settle for 70s technology. Turns out they don't have an infinite bank account after all.

Seriously, you guys have no shame making grandiose claims on the internet that you cant back because of sheer poverty.

Hey, we got no problems with 70s tech. I am simply quoting words from Indians themselves.

We are comparing F-16 with Rafale. Why are you bringing in F-22 into the discussion?

1) No, india will start induction in 2019.
2) F-16 was rejected because it cud not take off with full weapon load during its trials in Ladakh and IAF always favor twin engine fighters.BTW, F-16 has been reached to its maturity level and dont have much capability to improve further.
3)This contract of single engine fighter is for replacing migs. Again ,they wont be front line fighters like Rafales or Su-30's but for defensive role only.

4) F-16's of singapore are stationed in west bengal and IAF has been practicing with them since many years.

Pakistanis will be last to call indians poor. These single engines jets will replace migs and to fill the gaps.
IAF have dedicated aircraft for every purpose. Single engines for defending skies and twin engine for taking fight into opponent skies.
