Siling peak climb(December 2009):

Siling peak(5800+ meters) is a peak near the town of Khaplu in GilgitBaltistan. Khaplu is 8-9 hours drive further from Skardu. We attempted the climb after the first snow. On our way to Skardu on a NATCO bus two Jawans, on their way to Skardu, asked us where we were going and we told them to climb Siling peak. Their response was "In this weather? At this time of the year? Your going to die". The local police officer in Khaplu had the same thoughts and refused to allow us to do it. After much negotiations and persuasion he allowed us forfeiting any responsibility on his part. This climb was by far the most difficult I have ever attempted. Altitudes above 5000 meters with the temperature below -30 to -35 degrees, without the wind factor, made thinking and speaking more a labor, let alone the climb. Headaches and nausea accompanied us up to the top.

Siling peak hidden behind clouds. A view from the town of Khaplu:

Half way up. View of the valley beneath and the the Karakorum around(The peaks are not named). We were unable to see Masherbrum or K2 due to the adverse weather conditions. Had the weather been any clearer K2 and Masherbrum(K1) would have been clearly visible:

Post #46, first photo: Why is the color of ice (?) so strange blue-green? Different from the white just above it where men are walking on.

BTW, Thanks and keep them coming!

It all depends on the colour of the water in the ravine running under the Glacier.
When I visited Lake Saif - ul - Malook, it was surprising to find the water in it was a Jade green, possibly from vegetation on the surrounding hills while at other times it appears blue or even deep green.
