2 soldiers martyred, 3 injured in North Waziristan attack

MIRANSHAH: Two soldiers were martyred and three others sustained injuries as a vehicle of the security forces came under bomb attack in North Waziristan tribal district on Saturday.
Official sources said a vehicle of the security forces was attacked with a remote control explosive device in Degan area of Dattakhel tehsil. The martyred soldiers were identified as Naib Subedar Noor Muhammad and Sepoy Raza Muhammad, while the injured soldiers include Sepoys Waqas, Rahat and Saddam.
The security forces cordoned off the entire area after the blast and initiated a search operation. However, there were no reports about any arrests. No banned organisation has claimed responsibility of the blast so far.
It is the second attack on the security forces in North Waziristan in two days. On Friday, four Pakistan Army officers were martyred in a blast in Khar Kamar area of North Waziristan. Four soldiers also sustained injuries when their vehicle was targeted by militants through an improvised explosive device (IED), Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
The martyred officers included Lieutenant Colonel Rashid Karim Baig, Major Moeez Maqsood Baig, Captain Arifullah and Lance Havaldar Zaheer.
The attack happened in Boya area where the situation is already tense after the May 26 tragedy. “This is the same area where forces had conducted search operations and arrested a few facilitators,” the ISPR statement said.
On Thursday, two Frontier Corps soldiers were martyred in Balochistan’s Harnai district. They were also targeted through an improvised explosive device.
The situation in North Waziristan is already tense after the May 26 clash between security forces with protesters. The area residents have expressed grave concern over the deteriorating security situation in the area.
During last one month, as many as 12 security forces personnel have been martyred while 38 got injured, including the IED casualties. The recent escalation of violence is a cause of concern for the government and security forces. The president, prime minister and other leaders of the country have condemned the killings and prayed for the departed souls. The prime minister in his social media messages has said that the whole nation stands behind the armed forces of the country.
