Why would Indian want to involve herself in an extremely sensitive external matter?

Besides i am sure that the US 7th Fleet, 3rd Marine expeditionary force , the 130 USAF fighter jets and 35688 US military personnel stationed in Japan can take care of her if trouble starts to brew.

Nothing to worry about, this is just a strategy by the newly elected north korea leader to eastablish him self as a powerful leader and gain popular support.

Sorry, but he was not elected.

It's simply a case of inheritance - Kim Jong-Un will inherit the leadership of North Korean from his father Kim Jong-Il

4 ships of india can do anything in case of deadly conflicts in east asia sea of japan??? or just become the cannon-fodder sinking target for anti-ship missiles?

:hitwall::hitwall::hitwall::hitwall: - response to your post.Considering the fact that the adversary will be North Korea.

As much as dispatching ships are concerned , this is more of a symbolic gesture as Japanese Navy is still 2nd best if not best in ASIA.This shows our solidarity with our friends. Thank god we are now in position to help our allies.

UN chief calls for Korea restraint
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for restraint by the two Koreas after condemning an artillery attack by the communist North on the rival South, a spokesman said.

No country has yet requested a meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the attack however, diplomats said.

"The secretary general condemns the attack and calls for immediate restraint," said a spokesman for the UN leader in a statement. Ban is "deeply concerned by the escalation of tension on the Korean Peninsula caused by today's artillery attack" by the North.

"The secretary general insists that any differences should be resolved by peaceful means and dialogue," added the statement.

Ban has expressed his "utmost concern" to the British presidency of the Security Council, but the British ambassador Mark Lyall Grant said that no country has yet requested a meeting of the council to discuss the attack.

Diplomats said that no request was expected on Wednesday as the international powers would have to first decide what concrete steps the council could take in reaction.

The Security Council took several days to take action over the sinking of a South Korean warship in March, which has been blamed on the North.

North Korea's mission to the United Nations refused to discuss the latest incident when contacted by AFP.

Japan is not defenceless.

Japan probably has one of the finest, well equipped and well trained navies in the world.

2 Indian navy destroyers and Corvettes aren't going to make any difference except boost Japan-Indian relations - and since they probably won't do any fighting it's a win-win situation for India.
