Three scientists have been announced as the winners of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics on Tuesday.

Roger Penrose was awarded half of the prize "for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity," while the other half was jointly awarded to Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez "for the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the centre of our galaxy."

Nobel prize holds no significance for the masses, its a general group awarding its own members.

Not everything in life is about the "signficance" for the masses. Sometimes, for the "non" masses, we find it interesting to know the world we live in, and how it works.. and there is nothing wrong with that.

There is nothing wrong, with scientists being recognised within their peer group for their achievements..

Studies like these and subsequently the nobel prize are of the highest significance for mankind. There effects are delayed and metamorphic. Simply put 99% masses are stupid and tunnel visioned to know that.

All Nobel Prize winners are top scientists.

But not all top scientists will win a Nobel Prize.

In chemistry for instance there's a gigantic bias towards biochemistry, with very few chemical engineering or physical chemistry awards being given after 1980's or so. You can be a top tier chemical engineer or physical chemist and never get an award simply due to subject bias.

just please tell me that humanity will refrain from trying to make black hole power generators... lol ;)

any idea if the research is geared towards that end?
